hi i'm just after peoples opinions of using a t25 or t28 turbo on a 2.4 diesel and also what are the safe boost levels people run on these motors the engine has 240,000 kms on it and also if a t25 or t28 arent suitable what is a good budget turbo set up (dont mind using second hand parts) for these motors and is it worth running a small top mount intercooler setup with a GU bonnet scoop for a cool air feed
cheers
kane

hey mate,
where abouts in narellan are you?
Im in Mt.Annan and may be able to help you out.
The only direct bolt on kit is aftermarket as the 2.4 surfs are the 2.8 head.
Cheers

Re: turboing a 2l motor
Also, the ct20 doesnt like high boost, 12psi max with no intercooler as it looses its efficiency and heats up the air into the combustion chamber.
A mate of mine used to run 16psi boost in his 2.4 and that was with a safari turbo kit.
A ct20 with boost, exhaust and intercooler should do fine, its a 4wd, not a ricer race car.
Must admit the old 2.4 isnt the fastest thing in the world, especially when I had 35s and 4.8s top speed was like 100km/h. haha.

Re: turboing a 2l motor
im just near the town centre, the only reason i was thinking the t-25 was i can get a sr20det standard turbo cheap just wondering if it would be overkill what sort of performance would i be looking at with ct-20 mid sized top mount mount with gu bonnet scoop and maybe a thermo fan underneath running 12-14lb boost and a 2.75 or 3in exhaust just after peoples opionions who have turboed 2l motors before
Re: turboing a 2l motor
if you were to add a intercooler onto a ct20 setup, would it create to much lag as you wont be running high boost? or does the size of the cooler matter in this case.

Re: turboing a 2l motor
Well, I have been running a 2L-T motor in my CJ for the past 2 years or so. Recently started messing around with the boost on the CT20 Turbo along with the boost controller and the pump fueling settings. Have run 18-20psi boost on the CT20 with some good results which can be seen on my Dyno thread : http://www.pakwheels.com/forums/4x4-clu ... dyno-panga
Based on my experience, I do agree with the view that the CT20 loses wind at high boost levels and creates over-heating woes on long highway trips. Nevertheless, on shortish hauls and off-road settings, it does a decent enough job for whats it is.....
If I understand correctly, you are looking to turbo a naturally aspirates 2L engine in which case I am hoping that you are also looking to put in a 2LT fuel pump with the boost compensator without which this is not gonna be much fun....

Re: turboing a 2l motor
put simply, not all t25 turbo's are the same.
check the ar and trims off the sr20det standard turbo.
if it's not .49 / .49 it will not work very will.
the lower the exhast ar, the quicker it will spool boost but this costs temperature at the higher boost levels.
i had a T2(.49/.48) on a 2L 2.4 and it worked very well to 15 psi, but I wouldn't go anymore.
good luck
