have fitted an inj 454 in my patrol and we cant get it to start. It is at a mates dyno shop and has spark/fuel/ etc. the new coil was playing up so that has been replaced but it still wont start even on aerostart. aftermarket computer has been mapped etc so it should be starting. it doesnt even cough, splutter etc. just turns over..??? will do a compression test tomorrow to rule that out but even if down on a few cylinders it should fire.???? rotor button is spinning and has spark at the plugs.
any ideas guys or has anyone had this before....????
HIYA mate a bit more info on motor may help us, has it been rebuilt ? or just a top end jobby , you know the nitty gritty, thanks again stormpatrol /[ we got the other shiz well sorted mate thanks again ]
^^^^^^^ yep I put a 304 together recently and it did the same, turned, no cough no sputter just turned.
Easiest way to check is the rotate leads on the dizzy cap 180 degrees forward, and play with the dizzy rotation as you crank to find enough advance to start, it will either fire or not.
If it fires, pull the dizzy set it up 180 around and put the leads where they should be.
its a 2002 vortec motor out of a suburban. we got TDC when we set if up but had a look on the net and a few people have had the same prob and it has been the dizzy out 180 degrees. will try on mon. had enough and going up the beach tomorrow. the motor came out of a running car with a factory computer but the guy lost the comp so we have used an aftermarket eng comp.thanx guys was heartbreaking when the thing wouldnt start this arvo, just ran out of time as everyone had plans.
the offending culprit.
Ruff thats what i was saying no eprom no mapping..i should of read the post fully

if you have fuel and spark... ill have another vote for timing - dizzy.
I know the heart break we put an engine back together finished at 2am freezing cold, wet and grumpy but dizzy on the excitment of the first fire...
not a thing - nearly makes you cry.
For us it was the dizzy too. but not 180 out, 1 tooth out - got to love inexperience. lol
*there's a rock, drive over it :) there's a bigger rock, drive over it  there's an even bigger rock, oops broke it  Upgrade broken bit :bad-words:

righto.. back from up the beach ( took my l300 4x2 work van ). will def check the dizzy in the morning. will keep everyone posted. by the way it has just a stinger comp to run it. thanks heaps guys.
Have had similar issues with injected engines that have sat for awhile the injector's gum up and wont pulse. Try to feel them while cranking the engine over if they dont feel like they are pulsing tap the body of them with something like a screwdriver handle while cranking the engine.
Just another idea.
Just had a look at the pictures umm good luck with trying to feel the injectors. Does it smell like like fuel coming out the exhaust ?
I'm not stuck I'm over here!
Watch where you driven!!!

pulled the injectors out and had them cleaned just before we fitted the eng. i tried to do everything while the eng was on the floor, eg plugs, leads, rotor, dizzy cap, coil etc. brand new coil was no good though. hopefully check dizzy today and she will fire... thanx again for the options.
its a running.......!!!!!!!!! the boys played with it this morn and it is running.
headin to the dyno bay in the morn to fine tune the nitty grittys.
believe that stupidity is a step down from honesty so here is the reason it just wouldnt fire.....
some useless, hopeless, no idea, didnt use his eyes properly IDIOT......(me)
looked at the rotor button from the front of the engine bay late/early evening and picked the wrong end to start as num 1. feel like such a 8uttfest/teal slacker.
not very embarrasing. at least Rob at Chapmans will help me to remember for the rest of my life.
