hey all
havea genuine Pyrometer kit from VDo, i have intsalled the thing but i am having some major dramas..
Firstly i have installed the guage as per the instructions... but have not connected it into the dump pipe yet as i am having a new one made with the correct fitting.
The guage is recieveing the 12v from the accessories side of things.
I rand the thermo coupler into the engine bay, but i shortend the 5m long wiring loom that came with it, and after doing a bit of reasearch some people say it can be done others say it cant? too late for me i guess..
To test the guage i decided to sit it between the manifold of the turbo and the block to test the guage worked... NOTHING...
i checked all the wires again and noticed if i hold the broze thermo wire and earth myself out to the car i can control what the guage says... but as soon as i connect it back to the guage... NOTHING... and the pyro needle itself is sitting in an area thats well over 500 degrees...
Have i missed something here.. or have i fucked up the guage by shortening the wire??.. have i fucked the guage itself?
Cheers

Pyrometer Help
Re: Pyrometer Help
I just installed the same gauge and I dId recall it saying somewhere not to shorten wire. I just bunched it up and cable tied it. I did it by the instructions and got it put into exhaust before I tested and it works fine.
Can't see how that would damage the gauge.

Re: Pyrometer Help
I bought the same gauge and when installing I also shortened the special wire..........was going to get a new one but had the car dyno'd and the guy connected his in parrallel.
Mine is only out by 25degress....I can live with that.
Also not installed properly it will never get hot enough to register on the gauge.....from memery it starts to register from 100 onwards....
mine is in the dump pipe and will not move till under load for a few seconds..
