GQ 6" SUSPENSION LIFT DOING IT AT HOME!

Post by y60turbod »

HEY FOLKS!!

im putting a 6" ironman suspension lift onto my Y60 GQ maverick myself at home.

here is a link to the kit.

http://cgi.ebay.com.au/ws/eBayISAPI.dll ... K:MEWNX:IT" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;

THE KIT COMES WITH 5 DEGREEE CASTOR CORRECTION PLATES. DO I STILL REQUIRE DROP BOX'S ???

what else is going to be needed to install all of this ? DO I NEED SPACERS FOR THE GEARBOX OR DIFF'S OR TAILSHAFT ??

i have rear that the front cross member will need to be notched out with half of 2" steel pipe, easily done, and the tail shaft need to be switched around.

HAS anyone done this before themself at home and can give me a quick run thru the process of whatelse needs to be done ?

the suspension kit i purhcased, is that everything that is needed? or will i need gearbox spacers and tailshaft spacers etc.. ??

cheers! keen to get this happening asap!

Hey mate I'm not sure with a 6" lift but nomally u wouldn't need drop boxes if u have castor plates. But I would strongly suggest using the drop boxes instead if u already have them, they impove your handing and travel alot more than plates ever will.

Gearbox spacers are a good idea aswell but again if u have dropboxes already u may not need them or mabey not as many plates.

To put the kit in all u really need to do is undo ur shocks and sway bars. Use ur high lift to jack up each corner till the spring falls out and swap it out with the lifted one. U will need to jack it up pretty high to fit a 6" spring in. If ur having any dramas with the front not goin up high enough just pull out one of the bolts on ur control arms. That's how u get real flex hahaha.

Good luck mate, i don't think u will have any dramas.

If you want to do it properly I'd suggest the following:

Drop boxes instead of castor plates.

Adjustable lower (and/or upper) rear control arms to rotate the rear diff and get the angles of both uni joints back in to balance.

Longer bumpstops so that the suspension bottoms out before the shockies do, so you don't destroy your shocks.

This is the parts I needed to lift mine 6"s correctly & able to be engineered.

Front
coils
shocks
drop arms
extended braided brake line
extended diff breather hose
adjustable pan hard rod
adjustable drag link
heavy duty steering dampner

rear
coils
shocks
extended braided brake line
extended diff breather hose
brake bias bracket
adjustable pan hard rod
upper adjustable control arms
heavy duty fixed lower control arms
extended sway bar disconnects

Notched cross member, spun tail shaft end for end, fitted 15mm gear box packer took away slight vib it had.
I used Tuff dog,3rd's & snake items, all up cost was around $4500.

I haven't used caster plates or drop box's but from my research i'd stay away from caster plates. I chose drop arms over drop box's due to clearence just my personnel preference.

cheers.
