Best turbo for what , Diesel - Petrol , modest power - ball tearing acceleration, stock pump - race special - are you paying someone to do it or putting a kit together yourself, what is your budget ???? Lots to think about. You might be better off doing a search for different options, decide what you want then come back with specific questions.

I have a garrett 2860RS .64 exhaust side on my GQ. It has been set up as a long distance tourer. I am running it at 12psi and a small adjustment on the fuel pump. I have a 3" dump to a 2 1/2 exhaust ( soon to be changed to 3 "). This setup has the power coming on from about 1200 rpm. It cruises very well, sitting on 100 kph the egt is showing 310-330. To date it has done about 25,000k with a trip to the cape. I am happy with this level of performance. I average about 13.5 l per 100 ks heavily loaded for trips which gives me a fair range.

ive actually just seen some screen shots of a dyno run with the 2860 .64 rear housing and restriction in the exhaust side is massive. pre to post turbo temps were over 200 degrees different. definately thinking . 86 is the better choice and with enough fuel shouldnt be to laggy at all.
the screen shots are on another forum btw

Have a squizz at this thread, adds some more detail about 2860 vs 2871 vs 2876. Some good reading.

so bottom line , what is the best way to go for low down torque as well as high end power for my 4.2td 2876 with a .86 rear. is this correct, ive had the 2860 before, great turbo but a little sad up in the revs. looking for 180rwkw with large injector pump, will this 2876 do the job ????????

ok thanks, so with a large injector pump and .86 will i still have plenty of torque, like the gt2860 does?

torque is fuel derived, with a larger pump and the 2876r you will have more power for longer into the rev range.

got a bit of petty turbo knowlege..... whats the difference between petty n diesel turbo induction???
basically the same, more air = more fuel/diesel = more power
therefore with a massive sized engine, 4.2 lts a larger exhaust housing shouldnt be that laggy....
anyone tryed BIG turbos?
GT3540?
T70?
....T88 :P
any reason why not?..... proof of this reasoning???

Rpm is the biggest difference between petrols and diesels when looking at turbo options. Most diesels have a red line around the 3-4000 rpm whereas a petrol will be twice that.
Secondly when tuning petrols lean=bad whereas with diesels rich=bad.

The GT35 has probably been used on a smaller diesel before.

Big turbo petrol cars recieve their boost kick around the 4-5000rpm mark then they have another 3-4000 rpm to use it. No point doing that with a diesel.
