Only had this thing 3 weeks but i have done wheels and tires, installed some decent sound. next on my list of importance is to get this thing at a workeable height . whats the go with body lift? suspension lift? should i do both ? 2 , 4 or 6? I need to know as Im not going to be going out rock crawling or anyhting like that as it doesnt excite me, i just want to be able to clear anything i come across out on the trails . I go fishing amongst swamp country up north so thats this cruisers main use.Im pretty sure my rear springs are SHOT so keep that in mind . show me what you have done !!! mine is a 1979 fj45 and it was pretty standard when i got it. if you need any more technical info on motor and future plans that are in the pipeline let me know ...thanks fellas ...oh by the way im in brisbane.

if all you really want from the ute is to get to the fishing holes and back i think just a 2 inche spring lift would be fine and maybe later you could ad some longer shackles

Body Lifts:
Nowadays they to be approved by Qld Transport. You send them a copy of their latest form on which you need to list all the mods to your car.
You tell them what Bolts and Nuts and blocks you intend on using.
Then they will write back and say yes, or no you can't do it or use this material etc etc.
Once you have the QLD transport letter that says you can proceed you do the mods and take lots of pictures along the way.
You then write back and say it's done, here are the pics. They will ask you to come into one of their inspection stations where they will look at the whole car tyres, wheels, offset, oil leaks etc etc. and give you a letter to say it's approved.
Now for the thinking part. The biggest legal tyre on your car is 32 or 33 (32 x 11.5 i think) to run this size tyre you won't need a bodylift. But!!!! it is better to do the bodylift first, as after you spends a motza doing mods you don't want to turn around and have to pull stuff off just to get the bodylift approved.
Suspension Lifts:
Shop around lots of stuff on the market and lots of cruiser ute owners on here. My 2 cents would be to remove one primary leaf from the rear leaf pack as the kits usually have hard springs for towing and weight and they don't flex well. I would go a 2" lift as they don't require approval a 3" will probably go unnoticed though unless it goes over the pits. Not a fan of extended shackles myself I ran them for 8 years without a problem then in the last year got pulled over numerous times and had to take them off. If you do run extended shackles invest in some castor wedges.

Re: please teach me about lift kits.....
I agree with scanas, if you are worried about extended shackles then matt black them .
Make sure if you use extended shackles or standard height they really should be anti inversion as they are designed to stop the springs getting damaged.
Either stick with 2 inch suspension or if you want a bit extra just combine the extended shackles to be a bit over 3 inch.
If you only use 3 inch springs you really should use Anti-Inversion extended shackles to stop the springs inverting if you push on the springs but then you will end up at 4 inch plus so this is why 2 inch springs and extended shackles is a good size, also a good option is if you remove the shackles you are back to totally legal if you get in trouble from the DOT.

Re: please teach me about lift kits.....
I was never pulled over for shackles (matt black) it was total height and tyres and then they would go looking.
