GQ Factory Rear Swaybar Disconnects
GQ Factory Rear Swaybar Disconnects
Alright, i've done a search and its come up zilch so don't do the usual outer 'ATTACK ATTACK ATTACK' but has anyone adapted another rear swaybar disconnect (as in the in cab lever) to disconnect the front swaybar, or has modified the front swaybar to work the same as a rear factory disconnect. Would be very handy to have as my vehicle has a fair bit of body roll even with just a 2" lift and not too much flex in the front. Help?

Re: GQ Factory Rear Swaybar Disconnects
You should have no need for a front swaybar if you fit some decent coils and shocks.
I am running a 4inch lift with a rear swaybar and it handles great on road/offroad.

Re: GQ Factory Rear Swaybar Disconnects
Yer it is possible to mod. I have a seen a FJ55, that was converted to coils with a 5link front susp. It had huge travel, the sway bar link when unlocked used to poke out a hole in the bonnent on full up travel.
How to do it I am not sure as I have never pulled mine off to have a look.

Re: GQ Factory Rear Swaybar Disconnects
No sway bars in mine and it handles pretty good. I put my rear one back in once and it didn't make a noticeable difference and a front sway bar does virtually nothing. The front suspension has a very high roll stiffness and works like a giant sway bar anyway so it will body roll but stiffen very quickly. The material that the radius arm bushes are made from has an effect on this roll stiffness. What type of radius arm bushes are you running? Factory style rubber ones will crush better (allow more body roll and flex) than polyeurathane (Nolathane).
If you are chasing less body roll on road then I'd look at upgrading the rear swaybar to a larger unit and installing the Nolathane bushes to the radius arms.

Don't take life too seriously...it isn't permanent.
Re: GQ Factory Rear Swaybar Disconnects
HI MATE, I'VE RELOCATED THE DISCONNECT TO THE FRONT SWAY BAR ON A GQ BEFORE. NEEDS SOME LINK MODS AND A CUSTOM CHASSIS BRACKET BUT IS DEFINATELY WORTH IT. THE DISCONNECT HAD JUST ENOUGH TRAVEL FOR MINE WITH A 6" LIFT. THE CABLE IS LONG ENOUGH AND THE FRONT SWAY BAR MADE A GOOD ENOUGH DIFFERENCE ON ROAD TO MAKE IT WORTHWHILE. I'LL TRY TO DIG UP SOME PICS OF MY SET UP IF YOU'RE INTERESTED.
