swapping transfer cases behind a h55f

Post by shorty_f0rty »

guys..

has anyone swapped out an early transfer case from behind a h55f and replaced it with a later one?

I'm trying to figure out if its possible to swap out my 34mm Idler shaft transfer with an older one that came with a 38mm idler shaft.

I havent pulled a TC off the back of the h55f before so not sure in whats needed and how the idler shaft interacts with the gear box.

any info would be appreciated.

Thanks.

Andrew

Yup dont it both ways, got a later case behind a early H55F and a mate put 1983 case behind a 1HZ H55F, you need to swap the entire case over.

Hulsty,
Not sure if i've asked you this before but if you did swap the entire transfer and contents from an auto, isn't the high range gear taller than what comes in a manual h55f? wouldn't you want the high gear from your std case and just the low range gear from the auto?

High range is 1:1 throughout ... they do actually use some different tooth counts... but the actual ratio is the same in high range... low range however can have different ratios, depending on what they came out of... but unfortunately I can't name what comes with what, sorry.....

Yeah the entire transfer case from the auto gearbox. High range is 1:1 ratio
