Buying Used Daily Driver 4x4

Post by WICKED »

My DD was written on last thursday night by a 20year old, trying too drift a VZ Sedan around lights in the wet downhill and has ended up jumping the Island (100 odd Metres past the lights  ) and Slamming into my drivers door at 60+km/p
It is a total lose and I have been paid out by my insurance company (he isn't answer the phone and hasn't done anything with the letter of demand)
The police are throwing the book at him.

I am looking for a decent 4x4 for around $10000-$15000

I have looked at -
GU 4.5p Auto
TD 80
4.5p 100
Navara Dc
TD Hilux Dc
TD Prado

I'm not set on Ute or Wagon.
Really don't give a shit about the badge.
It will be my Daily. So decent Economy (Petrol on gas)
I want too be able too go away camping, to the beach, Light 4x4ing
After the above incedent I want to be safe (A and B pillar both collapsed)

What about a TD5 Rover?

Suggestion's?
Something I haven't thought off?

Benny... I've been looking at some of the GU 4.5 petty/gas Patrols that are on the market.
Seems to be a few out there that would suit your budget..
indubitably

At that price range I'd go a petrol 4.5 GU on dual fuel. And probably get one already half sorted for the type of work you want to do, (ie may have UHF, dual batteries,bar/spotties etc) and probably still pocket a small amount (of the $15k)
My friends aren't holding me back..... I'm pulling 'em forward.

I would go for TD80 or GU, but from what I have seen you would get more bang for your buck with a GU, ie newer, less miles, better std features, more comfortable.

Good turbo diesel 80s are still holding their value.

I bought a 100series this year, it is 12yrs newer than my 80 was, it drives nicer and is much more comfortable in so many ways compared to my 80, mainly because it is newer and slightly more refined than the 80.

What's your daily commute? 9 years ago I was driving Shailer Park to Scarborough every day. I sat down with Excel & did some sums, and it was cheaper for me to keep two cars and commute in my small japanese buzzbox 3 or more days a week than it was to sell it and run my Paj every day.

Buy a cheap crappy buzzbox for cheap running, and buy the 4wd you want to use offroad.

Ben you have neither the patience or the disposable income needed for a Rover.

Stick to a Japper.

Scott, My DD WAS a 2004 Pulsar. I still have the MQ for wheeling but I want a DD Wheeler as well as it will increase my parking options on site, I can do trips away, Tow, Beach run's, can transport my Bike, etc

I don't think I can go past the GU for the price. The Hilux's are good but for the money and size difference they're just aren't worth it.

I had serious concerns about that but wanted too look at all my options. Thanks mate
