At the moment I have a Sierra. SOA, 34" tyres, ect. I also have a 98 Commodore as a daily. I'm sick of two rego's and insurance. I want something as capable as my zook, however need a tidy car to drive to work. I'm considering of selling both and getting myself a TJ between 97- 2002. I would Ideally like to fit 33- 35" tyres and will lock it front and rear. Really 35's would be best but am unsure of what mods I need. I will also get a set of 31 or 33" A/t for road use. How much will I need to spend? Am I better off purchasing a modded jeep or doing it up myself. What kind of budget will I need to make it a weapon off road and still be ok on road.
Any help will be appreciated

I think daily driving a TJ with 35's will be a hard sell .. pending how far you drive and the state your in.
I bought my TJ new in 2000 so have no idea about costing's today.
I'd go for a 2000/1/2 model as they had better exhaust manifolds and few other neat mods ... though if the truck's ten year old they've likely fixed the major issues by now.

I will drive it Daily to work which is 5k away. I go to site a couple of times a week wich is usually between 30min to 1 Hr. Like I said I will have smaller tyres for daily duties. How strong is there drive train and how likely am I to damage it in the bush. I drive sensibly and mainly drive low traction hills and tracks. (I.e. Being in Vic there is mud). I do however avoid bog holes

you will need minimum 4 inch lift and preferably a 1 inch body lift , slip yoke eliminator , dc rear shaft , adj panhard rods , chromo tie rod , 4.56 ratios are good with 35s , new carriers or lockers to support ratio change , extended brake lines . adjustable upper arms , fixed or adjustable lower arms , 7 inch wide flares , extended rear sway bar links , front sway bar disconnnects and add wheels and tyres of choice .
they are not the best on fuel but if you only drive 5klm each way to work you will be fine my tj gets 300klm to 50litres .
get on some of the american sites for a look like quadratec and 4wd hardware at the parts available for tj,s as they would have to have more aftermarket support
than any other make of 4x4 in the world .

a mate has a wrangler with 33's. 2 inch lift and is pretty capable, locker in the front...
dont really need a locker in the back as the limo in his is pretty tight..
great cars but very thirsty, and parts are very expensive.
also they are pretty uncomfortable as a daily if you have muddies on it-road noise is a killer with a soft top//

I got a zook and xr6 turbo and also considering getting rid of them both for the wrangler... There is a bit of work to get it lifted even a couple of inches. A few $$$ to spend i think... but i can't find a Lux or anything similar with similar k's and age e.t.c. for any where near the same price as the wrangler.
