Hey does anyone know the duration at 50 and lift numbers of the 185kw HSV 308's?

308 or 304.
I thought the late 304s were 185 stock and 195 in HSV.
Didn't know they had made a 185 308 though.

308's were carby engines, if its a HSV its a 304

It says HSV 185 on the motor.
Yes you could call it a '304' if that's what floats your boat.
I don't believe there is any physical difference between the 308 and 304 strokes or capacity. I believe holden changed the name just to distinguish between carbie and efi.
So a '304' is just a 308 bottom end with new top end and efi.
So I'm still going to call it a 308 because that is essentailly what it is.

It's not a 308, it has a capacity of 304 Cui and there are many differences in the two engines. Both engines have the same block however the 304 has a 308 casting crank that has been machined differently. The VT engine block is also factory clearenced for a 355 crank. Cylinder deck heights are also different with the 304 being essentially zero decked for higher compression. The heads of course are remarkably different and the 304 heads flow much, much more Hp than 308 heads.
Any ways, the VT and VS III were standard 185 kw motor.
The 195 kw motor had a HSV grind cam, and uprated valve springs as well as a different tune in the computer.
This is Wade Cams equivelant of the Holden HSV cam grind.
It is for roller lifter motors (VS III and VT) not standard lifters.

For future reference the capacity difference comes from the crank
The GMH manual shows
bore -101.6mm stroke 76.83mm (304) just under 5L
or
bore -101.6mm x stroke 77.8mm (308) just over 5L
They wanted to be under 5L to fit into group A rules

Same cam spec as a standard 165kw engine I believe.
Only differences between the non stroked 5 litre motors were factory bolt on mods such as the addition of knock sensor, extractors, exhaust, memcal chip & cold air induction. I just put a 185kw HSV engine in my Patrol but used a standard VN ECU and loom to avoid the BSM etc and this was what I was told when doing my conversion...
