4 Runner diff with 60 series centre

Post by dawg runner »

Hi,

Got a V6 commo motor in my 1985 4 runner and i have stripped most of the teeth off the crown wheel.

Spoke to J Mack diff & Gear in Arndell Park and he suggested cutting my diff centre housing out and putting a 60 series landcruiser centre housing in. Sounds like a good idea but my ARB air locker will not change over so i will need to get another locker to suit 60 series if i want to continue to run it. So i am up for some bickies by the sound of it. Don't mind spending the cash so it wont happen again in the near future but i would think with a new locker included i would not get much change out of $2000. Could just run an LSD in the back and just have a locker in the front but i would prefer an ARB lcoker in the rear as well as front.

Anyone done this mod and have they had any issues since the change over?

Also if anywhere out there has a 60 series rear diff brake to brake with a locker for sale i would love to hear from you.

I may also have a locker for a hilux available as well once i source a 60 series one. It would need to be put into a new diff as the crown is stripped in the diff it is in.

Thanks in advance

Cheers
Dave

Get a 105 axle and shorten the long side to the short side length and run a short side axle shaft in it.. This makes a 9" centred axle close to stock width.

Best to use an 80 series rear cut down, as the 105 series have 5 studs.
Maybe extend the short side of a 60 rear diff to match the long side?
Bubs may be able to fab a custom housing as well.
