My Air Hose from the Air Flow Meter to the Plennum Chamber keeps blowing off from the air flow meter end when my 86 RRC is under stress going up rocks or rought terrain and the engine is running at high revs in low gears. The trans is auto, the engine is the standard 3.5L V8.
Anyone know how to fix this problem? Is it a tuning / backfiring issue? I have a K&N Filter and Extractors with 2.1/4" inch pipework. Any advice would be most appreciated.

Air Hose Blowing Off

Re: Air Hose Blowing Off
Forgot to mention that it is dual fuel Gas/Petrol. Use mostly gas when in the bush as better tuned to gas. Regards, Andrew
Re: Air Hose Blowing Off
Sounds like an ignition lead problem with the LPG. With old/dirty leads the high tension charge from the dizzy firing to a cylinder can jump to another cylinder and fire a gas mixture in the inlet manifold via the other cylinder that is sucking in a gas charge in preparation for firing.
It normally manifests itself in a backfire that blows the pipes off or even blows the aircleaner apart. You can also get weaker blow backs.
The solution is simple as it is a result of old/dirty leads, lead caps or leads crossing over each other.
Replace the leads with a high quality set and rerun your leads to minimise cross over. Timing should be about 6-9 degrees BTDC to account for gas (normally about 3 degree btdc for petrol). Petrol will still run Ok at the advanced LPG settings.

I'd agree with gary here. Sounds like a backfire through the inlet manifold. Also might be a good idea to check the timing.....
My timing was a fair whack out when I bought my car and it would backfire through the carby when on gas (also ign leads were arcing out). I ended up with an inverted air cleaner housing.....
Might be an idea to research into the ignition amp produced by RPi engineering in the UK. They allow you to have two different timing settings for petrol and gas. Gas requires more advance and without some sort of timing device like this, you'll end up having a compromise between the two.

Re: Air Hose Blowing Off
Thanks to both pieces of advice which I will use. Going bush again this weekend so will get new dizzy leads and make sure no crossover and report back any changes... FE11xx - I have been considering the ignition amp from the UK for awhile now but a bit hesitant to splash out as I know nothing about it except for what the UK company advertises on ebay... Have you tried this product or know anyone who has and do you have any positives or negatives to report?? Really apreciate the feedback. Cheers
