wat do you guys think of using something like this in the front of a hilux/bundera coil conversion to eliminate binding. i know the yanks use them on broncos and such for more wheel trave.
my only concern would be strength considering that only one controll arm would be stopping the diff rotating, instead of two.
it could be pinned for road use so that isnt really an issue.

some guys use the hinged arm in the states and swear by them (rovers)
one guy in the lrocv gives his 100" and hinged arm a hiding and it seems to work.
i believe there is a difference to which side you should hinge, so the motor torque doesn't unload that corner causing the car to rear up in the worst case scenario.
its not an expensive mod, give it a go, nothing to lose!!!

i get full travel out of a toy 80 series shock with sams bushes, thats good enough for me!
if i had a trail only truck, i would give it a go.

You should do the LHS so that it counteracts the drive shaft torque - but this will produce some funny drive shaft angles. I did the RHS.
Biggest drama I had was under brakes on very steep down hill stuff. The rig would lift the RHS rear tyre very badly and want to tip the rig over. Really scary stuff. Once I got rid of the hinge (locked it up) and drove down the same tracks it drove very easily and comfortably.

true, i might be worth a go, plus its not hard to throw one pin back in to lock it up when drivin steep shit, or i could just design some sort of 5 link.

Don't you already have a 4 or 5 link in the rear of the coil Paj?

Sorry to say, I have yet to see a 5 link (as in front modified GQ or 80) or other quirky mod (hinged radius arm) to be of any serious advantage in either a competition environment or trail rig, other than to create a flex queen. I get to film hundreds of different rigs and get to watch the footage over and over again, and what stands out is the driver ability and vehicle strength. Now DE-Hyro is another thing altogether...

The rear end of the Paj is two trailing arms and a panhard rod. I've not looked into it too far, but I think Frank recently posted about a 4 link conversion in Japan.
I agree that going down hill will be hard to keep rear wheels on the ground - without weight over the axle, neither spring will compress, so no articulation.
