longarm or ladder bar

what are the main differnces between the two. as in the way work and what there intended to do. i was of the understanding ladder setups were for speed but i may be wrong. if a ladder bar was long would it not still be good for climbing and articulation?

Ladder bars are for drag racing, to stop the diff twisting on launches.

They would be no good on a 4wd because they wouldn't allow much flexing before binding

No ladder bars are completely useless.

In fact they are to stop axle wrap or tramp.
With soft flexy springs the axle will wrap and can cause the pinion to break along with other things.
If setup correctly it won't limit travel

Please explain how you could set up ladder bars to flex

In my opinion they'll bind like the front arms of a patrol

Guess it depends on exactly how your defineing "ladder bar"

some would call this a "ladder bar" it has a shackle etc to allow for twist and some give in the bushes and the extra shackle to allow for some roatation of the housing during its range of movement etc

Others think of a ladder var as more like this hard mounted to the chassis designed to channel big power into the the ground on a very flat sticky surface ..

The difference is Long arms as generally described ,are for coil spring lower control arms but much longer.
A ladder bar is so stop axle wrap, if a ladder bar is fitted you can then remove your load bearers to allow more flex throught the spring pack .
Load bearers on a standard 4wd are their for 2 reasons , first is to carry the extra weight and second to act as a anti wrap device to sop the springs being wraped under breaking and accellerating.
With a ladder bar you can remove them.
For a ladder bar to work properly you must either have a swinging shackle on the front of the ladder bar or the other design is a sliding tube .
As the vehicle articulates there must be a provision for the axle assembly to move due to rear steer associated with standard type suspension setups.

The ladder bar we manufacture utilises a swing shackle and bush design and has zero bind.
