replacing oil seals

Post by skips_BIGRED »

am currently in the process of replacing the rear pinion oil seal ('96 landcruiser), and am wondering what to replace it with..

are the ones from repco/bursons/etc going to last me aslong as a toyota one? or is it a 'get what you pay for', i'm happy to pay for the extra quality.

also, if anyone has any tips for installing it, and putting it all back together that would be appreciated.

Cheers

They have a crush sleeve that you are supposed to replace with it. I believe there is a procedure for doing it on vehicle, but i don't know what it is (although i'm sure it's been discussed before) I've only done them with the diff out which makes measuring the preload easier.

As for seal quality, the toyota seals are better.

When you take the flange off be sure to check the surface the seal runs on. If it's worn, replace the flange aswell.
