Working out coilover rates
Anyone got the low down on working out coilover rates. Looking at 18"'s in the rear and 16"'s in the front. At the moment the front weighs 1.14T and the rear is 0.86T. Rear is a double triangulated and front will be a 3 link + panhard with mechanical steering. The rear arm lenghts are lowers- 1150mm and the uppers are 1090mm. Might make the fronts close to the same.
Any info would be good.

Re: Working out coilover rates
Working it out is new to us. Leaf springs are much easier.
Goes over my head when trying to work it all out. Tried a few of the calculators now and it doesn't look right.
Pain in the arse when we have limited time to work it out.

Re: Working out coilover rates
Suggested coil rates seem to be OK.
My only suggestion is don't have the rear too soft as you need the front to work, too many people have the rear set-up too soft & the front too firm which is the wrong way to go about it. You are better off having the front work more.

Re: Working out coilover rates
Agree with brooksy here you don't want the car to squat in the rear on climbs and unload the front .If your spring rates are out a bit you can also cheat buy putting a bit more gas in them.
18'' coil overs are a long shock my opinion is it is better to carry a wheel then loose it under a rock just food for thought most people thing flex is the king but is is very overrated 14'' or 16'' stroke and set you shocks up at 50/50, up travel is your friend just keep cutting till it clears .
Just a thought

Re: Working out coilover rates
IMO i would be just setting up the current spring rates, then concentrating on letting mick do a magic tune up to a set of his new bling remote res shocks and also fit a set of air bumps. That way you can drive the whels of it and know that it will handle anything you can through at it!! Why wreck a good combination, when you have the chance to make it awesome.
[ you have 5 days - 1 day to fit air bumps, 1/2 day to drink beer and work out mounts for new long travel remote res AMADAS, 1/2 day to makee mounts and drink more beer, then 3 days of driving and tuning!! ]

I'm not sure if it helps but in my cut down bundera Ill be running the following rates
Front 150/250
Rear 100/200
It weighs around 1720kgs
