Baleno engine issue

Post by sierrajim »

My 1.6 twin coil pack Blaeno motor (with Jimny auto) has a miss/hesitation under load on accelleration.

The check engine light comes on when this happens. The diagnostic tool we have here won't talk to it.

The TPS is new, fuel pressure is OK, under light load/accelleration drives fine. when it gets past that particular load spot it also drives fine.

Any ideas?

Hey jim
I am about to put this engine into my sierra, In doing so I did a bucket load of reading on the pros and cons of this engine. This problem was raised quite a few times with the balino guys that pushed them for power. I found a bunch of info on redlinegti.com and twincam.org. From what I read the common problem are air temp sensors, faulty T.B. and faulty coil packs.
But that is what I have read on the net so who knows.

check your spark plug tubes for signs of the spark jumping out the side to the head. will look like a pin hole with white soot around it. otherwise swing round one arvo and i'll have a look for you! :D

Cheers guys.

Have tested, checked and cleaned plugs, sensors, termainals etc.

Now have a new coil pack, cam sensor and map sensor on the way. Will swap bits out one by one to isolate the problem.

Yes, there's a little valve that threads into the manifold that the MAP sensor takes its vaccum from. When bypassed it ran fine. So as originally thought was a MAP problem, just not the sensor itself.
