Hi all,
Obviously it can and has been done, but how the hell do you loosen the alternator adjusting nut on a 105 1HZ? The tensioning bolt is easy enough to get to, but it seem you have to remove either the entire front of the vehicle or the compressor to get to the adjusting bracket nut??!!?
Any help would be much appreciated,
Cheers

Re: Bastard 1HZ alternator belt!
Don't know about 105 series, but I have a hzj75 and I agree it's a job I avoid until I just have to tackle it. I use an 18" breaker bar with a very short extension and socket, a little guess work, a little swearing and a little skin and blood. The extension is out of a stud extractor, Failing that a deep socket would probably do the job. LOL Ed.

Mines easy
There is a locknut on the adjuster - faces forward, forget which part it's on. Loosen that. I tdoesn't look like a locknut - it is though.
Then adjust away
No need to loosen anything else.
I've also replaced it twice - and never had to pull anything else out.

Re: Bastard 1HZ alternator belt!
you think yours is bad. change the belt on the 1hdfte. same set up as yours but with intercooler piping in the way.
tip- if youve loosened off the bolt that tensions but the alternator wont move. tap it gently with a screw driver and hammer,
