Re: electric water pumps
Edelbrock sell a electric motor and brackets that will drive your manual water pump and therefore keep the water circulating with the motor not running, combined with an electric fan it can be a boon after working the hell out of the engine.
Re: electric water pumps
I like the concept, and a mate of mine has one that (as far as I know) he's happy with. But I did read quite a diatribe on a website somewhere about a bloke with a GM LS? V8 that just couldn't get it to work - from memory, Davies-Craig couldn't get it to work either.
Re: electric water pumps
I run Bosch electric water pumps in my Sierra. I run a rear mounted radiator and I've deleted the mechanical pump.
The application mine are from is a heater circulation pump from, I think, some volkswagen product.
Bosch do a wide range of electric water pumps and they are all, AFAIK, magnetically coupled ( I know mine are) they do some very trick DC brushless pumps with crazy flow rates for BMW. They're pretty amazing but VERY expensive.
Toyota used Bosch pumps on the TRD hilux for the water/air intercooler, and PWR use Bosch pumps too.
I looked into the Davies Craig pumps and the still run a shaft seal. Mag coupled is 57567876678 times betterer than a shaft seal.

Re: electric water pumps
The electric water pumps on Volkswagens are known as after run water pumps. The are found on ALL gen4 golf and bora (98-early 05)models that have the VR6 and VR5 engine. They can also be found on most of the other model but they are dependent on year and model.Gwagensteve wrote:I run Bosch electric water pumps in my Sierra. Re: electric water pumps
Check out Meziere in the US. they do engine specific electric water pumps that bolt into the same spot your belt driven one came out of. A much neater installation than the davies craig one
