let me put it this way, I know when you first start racing $ are tight. But you spend 3/4000 on a winch, this wont save your life , But $1500 on a roll cage will. If you want the high speed stuff, Than think twice. I have barral rolled at 80km at QLD winch challange ,the cage and front pillar was push back 200mm and both driver and navi both walk away.At lowmead we were taped out in 4 in the rally track 100km+ WHAT WILL HAPPEN IF THINGS GO WRONG ,YOUR CHOOSE.

i do here what you say when we first ran the track it was dryer than that and it was going to be a GPS STge which would have slowed some of you down. after the rain the track became very very greesy which made your rear wheel speed much fasted than the actual speed of the car. you are in control of the skinny peddel . if the speed limit is 100 but you feel it is unsafe to do so do you still do 100 ?? or do you do the speed you know your car is safe doing, we ran many stock cars and lifted cars around this track no one had any conserns about a roll the paddock is bare. i watched many spin out at speed before we ran the track and the risk of a roll didn't look likley i saw pickles 360 half way along the straight with out even lifting a leg. night stage at CQ picture an uncaged car at the speed of yours rolling into a tree ;) alot safer in a clear paddock. remember all the fastest cars that were sliding every where where caged all others were slower accept for the vitara who had better control as it was lighter. ill take your comments on board and perhaps next time you run this track it will be as planed GPS to slow you guys down

Hey I agree here on both points but the events was really aimed at entry level vehicles aswell. No hard feelings whoever owns it but the 60series was hardly going to roll at the pace it was going!! I have raced short mattykhanas where your lucky to get above 40kph and seen vehicles on two wheels! Is hard to say what is and isnt safe.It is the drivers discretion how fast is safe and if you want to get nitty gritty none of the cars are equiped with scuba gear for a rollover in the creek! But we all went and had a go Thanks Troy and everyone who helped had a ball! Guna go clean the mud off my rollcage! :)

Troy I am not having a go at you I am consern with saftey over all . When you enter the start box at a stage the red mist can set in and things go pear shape. If there is a bad accident All of us will have no where do what we all love.

All good bryan not what you said cos im all for safety, just how you said it.when you watch some of the footage you will see the difference between the fast cars that are caged and the others much slower. we tried to roll fergi even when it was dryer and just couldn't, you know we have 2 of the most rollable cars in CQ :D :) :smilecolros:   SO WE HAVE TEST DRIVEN IT QUITE A FEW TIMES :morning:

My belief is that roll cages are a bigger issue than this one comp.I have seen many comps run a "beginners/ entry level comp and end up being well known for being a serious comp and the rollcage issue falls by the wayside. It`s about the message u are putting across to the public and the people who want this type of fun shut down.As a organiser you is your responsability to publicly display that you are conforming with saftey as BEST you can. Also this rule exploits the fact that somone who doesent care about the sport , or themselves can get a dunger and go nuts,I`ve seen this before too.Every time one of these comps are run and are run you run the risk for a twat to wreck it for everyone else.Troy guys like Alfey&greg have been around and seen what can happen on slow and fast track, most people who compete say the cage is the best thing put in any car race or driver...Billy

Since this has now become a blanket discussion on rollcages and not just singling out the lowmead event, maybe a new thread should be started for this discussion? So notnto tarnish what was great event with no incidents (yes something could have occired but didn't)
The Gladstone 4x4 club competition comittee will adress the issues that have been raised for next year events with significant changes to rules and regs already being discussed before this topic had come up.

None of us want to se the sport grow and notnhabe any negative feedback from the
media or communtiy, but we are trying (it's hard) to get an event up and running where the weekend warriors who have never competed before can come in and have a go before bolting a cage in,
But for that to happen the regular competitors will no longer find the stages enjoyable
as they will be to easy and pose no reall challenge for the better set up vehicles, any suggestions on how to make a comp work for both non caged and caged vehicles
would be greatly appreciated!

Maybe chicken teals for non caged vehicles? Maybe no speed stages for everyone? Who knows, but please everyone we have ideas on how to make this competition work for everyone? And if someone wants to start a seperate rollcages thread then we can also discuss the other Queensland comps that don't enforce the roll cage rules aswell, no use discussing it in a single comp thread where other organisers don't hear the ideas and thoughts being put forward..

its good to here we have so many people in the region that have so many good ideas ! there is a lot of room for you to join those who are running comps and help out to get it right !! if you have the perfect formular to tick all the boxes, step up and run one, we could use all these good ideas before the next event, its easy to sit on the key board and have all the answers after. if not our event please invite me to yours im always wanting to learn :x-mas: cheers to all the non caged drivers who don't see what all the fuss is about and have appreciated the oppertunity to have a go ,there is still some guys who drive there cars to suit the conditions , capabilities and condition ie caged or not with out the need to win at any cost , some of us just want to have some fun

Troyten, I do help run a comp it`s called Dirtsprintz. We have safty issues as well but we Do have roll cages and cheap entry level cars. It`s about promoting saftey. If you dont want to run cages don`t but you guys asked what would make the comp better and a seasoned competitior told you that your comp needed rollcages and I supported that.I`d be happy to give u a vip pass to the next dirtsprintz as you asked, there is no need to worked up.If you get to see a crash where a cage was used proper in a crash,Not just speed (Festers backflip a few years ago for example) you might change your mind.

Didn`t want to offend Cheers Billy
