Loud turbo whistle

Post by LOCKER »

Guys
Have just fitted a new Dts turbo and it goes well, but the turbo whistle is really loud, people are turning and looking 100's metres away. Does anybody have any idea as to why it is so loud, I woukd hate to do a long trip with it this loud. Any suggestions most welcome.

Could be an air leak on the pressure side - check the wastegate pressure line is still connected, i know mine made a hell of a whistle when it's come off in the past.

check your inlet manifold to turbo pipe gasket.
The wrong bolts were supplied with mine - they were too long and bottomed out leaving a small gap for the air to escape past the gasket. Sounded like a gum leaf Skippy whistle on boost
I just had to shorten the bolts about 3-4mm and job done

Add a super charger to it and then you wont hear the whistle over the whine of the belt

did you change your air box when you changed your turbo. If so that might be your problem. otherwise like a few other ppl have said, look at you manifold inlet side.

All fixed there was a slight alignment issue and leak at the crossover pipe to inlet manifold, fixed it by using a thicker gasket and rotating the front housing on the turbo by a whisker. Now Im in stealth mode.

Thanks
