IFS 4runner CV replacement, Easy/Hard Edit: Diff Replacemen

Post by motoking »

Hey Guys just managed to break a CV on my 93 4 Runner Drivers Side, is it something that could be done at home or is it better to go get a shop to look at.

I got reasonable amount of tools, but i couldn't do a wheel alignment or the likes. Anybody who could comment on the proceedings would be much appreciated.

Oh and should i get a Toyota Cv or have a look at one of the after market ones, its really just a daily but i did manage to blow this one :)

Cheers Allan

It Seems that the Cv is fine along with the locking hub, however the half axle on the diff has a lot of movement and skips about a quarter of a turn in one position. Likely causes ... possible fixes :S Is it more likely to be a ring gear or one of the spider gears cause it only seemed to be affecting the right hand side

Cheers For any Help, Allan

By "half axle on the diff" are you talking about the Automatic Differential Disconnect used via a button on the 4WD lever ?
This uses a split axle on the passenger side with a sliding ring to engage them when 4WD is activated.

Hey nah just the flange part that you bolt the CV assembly too. Mine is australian 4runner so no ADD for me. I took it apart and i did the teeth on the crown wheel and pinion apparently pretty common for this diff.

Thanks the reply anyway :)
