Cleaning Aluminium Checker Plate
Looking for a product to get the checker plate on my side rails and rear bar sparkly clean again.
Anyone got any suggestions, or should I go with the Mothers Aluminium Polish or Meguirs Aluminium Polish?
Was also thinking that there would probably be some truck products I should look at aswell?

Re: Cleaning Aluminium Checker Plate
I'll see what we use for cleaning up the aluminium skirts along our trailers. I know it's pretty potent though and if left too long there will be nothing left, it's a brush on and hose off quickly product.

Hey Mate, Chemtech make a few cleaning products, I think that one of them is designed for cleaning aluminium.....CT14 or CT15 from memory.
Available from Bunnings or Mitre 10 I believe.
Let us know how you get on.
Cheers, Dano

Re: Cleaning Aluminium Checker Plate
Wheel cleaner (acidic type) will get em looking good again. Not the shiny polished look but that never lasts to start with.

Re: Cleaning Aluminium Checker Plate
Most of the above mentioned corrosive cleaners work very well.
Be aware they can also make powder coat "bloom" too, use properly.

Be careful not to use products containing Hydrofluoric acid (HF). That is extremely dangerous - diffuses through the skin without you knowing it and eats away at your bones. It can even be deadly. I can't believe they even sell products containing that for polishing metal for the home handy man. There are plenty of warnings on the packaging but most people don't take much notice of that as most of the time and the risks are often overstated. Not with HF though.
Google "HF acid safety" if you don't believe me.

There is no need to use it for polishing alloy.

Re: Cleaning Aluminium Checker Plate
Picked up some Purple Metal Polish from Bursons the other day and gave it a crack. Pretty happy with the result so far (half a clean side step)!
