H guys my LSD needs rebuilding and was after some advice about doing the rebuild, has any one done it whats involved and what did it cost you :?:

Its probably going to depend whats wrong with it. I'm presuming bearings are rooted. Could try and pull it apart yourself and then just get new bearings. Or get a changover. Or I could recommend a good workshop to do it for you.... ;)

I think that i have a good idea of which work shop you would recomend :lol:.. I think bearings are ok just not doing the lsd thing its very loose.

Perhaps first thing to try would be with oil..... different viscosity oil, and 'friction modifiers' can change the effectiveness of the lsd.....

actually, a huge majority dont have em in the rear, but many do. I couldnt say anything about figures but i would say that more dont have LSD than do.

I wreckon u could pick up a decent working LSD for about $300 from a wercker somewhere, not sure how much the rebuild would be. Mine needs a rebuild too, but im just gonna get a locker fitted to an open centre ive got and bung that in in the next few months :armsup:

The cost of a new set of clutch discs/plates for the LSD is more than you'll pay for a complete used LSD by a fair margin. In the USA, each is about $25 and at least on our H233B units you need at least 20 of 'em.
I picked up a virgin (never installed) H233B third-member on Ebay for $75 shipped (score!) a while back just to get the clutch pack from it as a basis for an overhaul/tweak of my LSD. It's the one that I tore down as a dry run here: http://mywebpages.comcast.net/xterra/tech/LSD/
