Which Patrol?

Post by Matt P »

Hey all

I'm looking to pick up a second-hand Patrol for going to the snow & some fairly heavy towing. Won't be used too much off-road, but wouldn't mind getting into that too so one that can "do it all" is preferable.

Not sure which one to get, but liked the 4.2 Turbo Diesel for its towing power. Was talking to someone about them who said they changed from leaf to spring suspension. Was wondering what model that was & is it a good buy?

Any other suggestions/comments would be good as i'm not really sure which one to look for and the price it carries. I'm trying to keep my budget to around 10-12k, but will openly acknowledge that this may be unrealistic.

Cheers

Matt

If you shop around you will pick up a GQ 4.2 diesel for around 10-12k. From there you can get an after market turbo for around 3k.
This will give you coil spring, towing ability and a bloody good truck.

yes the utes had a medium duty and a heavy duty, heavy duty had leaf springs!!

the wagons and some utes had coil springs, these are a good strong truck 10k to 12k is a realistic price, i beleive bogged has one with extractors, and uses it for towing and snow work!

good, strong, and capable out of the box rig!
