thermos instead of engine driven fan
thermos instead of engine driven fan
hi everyone i have been thinking about removing the engine driven fan and installing another thermo fan or two. another to push through and another bigger one to suck through. its for a turbo i/c 4.2 gu . anyone done this. is there much point in doing this. cheers
Re: thermos instead of engine driven fan
Use the twin pull through type off a falcon, the moulded shroud works well.
If you are going to use ones without a shroud then you're wasting your time

Re: thermos instead of engine driven fan
if you are running a 4.2 diesel, leave the factory fan in place, I tried changing my but could never get it to run as cool as what it did with standard fan, I've been told the 4.2 petrol and 4.5 petrol factory fans have a bigger rake on the fan blades and so cool better than the diesel fans, but haven't found out if is true or not.
Re: thermos instead of engine driven fan
Do a search , im sure its been a topic regarding comparing factory fan CFM of air, compared to thermo fan CFM of air
The factory fans push more than the thermos
If you have heating issues,i doubt goin to a lower CFM of air fan will fix the problem
When was your radiator last cleaned ???
Not with a hose either (that does nothin),proffesionally rodded out

Re: thermos instead of engine driven fan
im running au falcon thermos on my gq td42t and the temp never goes above 90deg even when exhaust temps reach 500deg the hardest part is setting up the controller.
Re: thermos instead of engine driven fan
thanks for reply's. im not having any heating issues. it does occasionally climb up a bit while giving it a hard time in the soft sand. i was just looking at different methods that may or may not keep the temp a constant in any situation. are the au fans easy to adapt or is it better to customise some singular fans pushing and pulling air through the rad all the time. i would like to hear from some guys who have done it succesfully and wheather they think it is worth it or not. cheers
Re: thermos instead of engine driven fan
au fans are very easy to adapt onto a 4.2 gq petrol. don't think it'd be much different for a diesel.
i don't know if they'd be better at keeping engine temp constant though. why is the fluctuation worrying you?

Re: thermos instead of engine driven fan
i do alot of beach driving. and there is nothing worse than having to back off when its already hard enough to get through. just exploring some options. not to worried if it can't be done.
Re: thermos instead of engine driven fan
if you do alot of beach work then stick with the engine fan , i have falcon thermos and although it keeps up on road and in the bush , on the beach it struggles and if i was pushing it hard on the beach im not sure that it would keep up
Re: thermos instead of engine driven fan
thanks guys i think that convinces me to stay with the engine fan
