I have been told that it is in fact possible to fully seal a petrol engine so it can be submerged.

Any one know how or know who does it?

Sure it can be done, but you still need an air intake. Snorkle would do it. Depends on how deep you want to go.

yeh thats a given but i am more talking about the dizzy, al the seals and what not.

Its not all that hard. But why? If you have a good new seal on the dizzy or put a LITTLE sikaflex on it. Make sure you air ducting from your snorkle is air tight. Make sure you oil dipstick and filler cap seal are in A+ condition. Put a little vaso inside you spark plug wires. Just about everything else under the bonnet of a Sierra can handle a dunk. But it is not good for it.
If your planning on going that deep you need to look at putting breathers on EVERYTHING. Make sure your brake fluid cap does not have a breather on it.

How deep are you looking to go and why. If you wanting to do a lot of deep water crossings I would be looking at getting a water dam for the from to plow the water out of the way. It really helps keep water out.

ok cool i dont really know yet but i know that there are some really deep holes around so i wanted to be safe, thanks for the info it is greatly appreciated

There is also a big diference between deep mud holes and deep water holes

rubber glove over the dizzy, cut the fingertips off vaseline and cableties over the leads and base, spray with crc - waterproof (to an extent)
gladwrap and cableties over starter motor and spray with crc
go over all plugs and wiring with tape and crc ect...
in case you havent already guessed you will go through alot of crc and cableties

If you wanna get tricky, run an airline from a compressor in the cabin to the dizzy cap and that will pressurize it enough to stop water entering. Vasoline on new quality (I recommend eagle) leads and a good snorkel and extended breathers on diff, gearbox and transfer right up to the top of the firewall or cabin and you'll be laughing at any water up to the door handles.

Be carfull of pumping "moist" air into your dizzy, your engine will have "brain damage" before you leave the car park, not to mention watch the pressure,

Zuk motors are pretty water resistant little things.
quality plug leads with di-electric grease on them ( non conductive non hardening grease that wont effect rubber) I liked the bosch ones with the one piece boots formed onto the cable.
Di-electric grease on your dizzy cap seal. Silicone will wick after a while and can be a PITA to get apart if needed.. di-electric grease is self healing when you pull it apart and put it back together.

Snorkle with well sealed joints .. and replace the hose covered in fabric that leads up to the air filter .. the fabric is porus and the hose has lots of holes in it .. not sure why,

Breathers on everything at least up to the height of the firewall .. lots of rear brake shoe's . they wea out fast in the mud and muck.
