2008 VRX problems today

Post by kempster1 »

We had issue's with our VRX today..

We had been our for a family cruise (Some minor 4x4 beach work)

When travelling home we suddenly lost power, engine would not rev over 2000rpm. We had not dash lights to indicate a problem.

I limped about he 10 km home, I then stopped the the engine and restarted. I then got a check engine light and the ASC & ASTC light where on.

I am assuming the engine power is been limited due to the ASTC light being on.

I do not have access to a dealer so is there a way to find out what the check engine light is on for?? (All fliuds are okay)

This is not what I need when I have family here

Try disconnecting the battery for 5 minutes then turning the key on and off (not starting) 10 times, that should clear your code. Won't stop it from happening again though.
I'm not quitting drinking, I'm retiring at the top of my game - sporting comeback likely.

Found out today there is a code reader on the Island.

Check engine light is on due to stuffed MAP sensor.

Kempster, your vehicle being a 2008 model will be the NS series. If so there is a common problem that the Map sensor gets coated with crap from the EGR valve. On the later NT versions (mid 2009 on) the map sensor was relocated to the upper side of the inlet manifold to minimise the problems.
A number of guys on the Pajero forum and lots of guys on the Triton forum have had their upper manifolds changed to the later version.
The pics below show the problems and what happens when introducing EGR into an inlet manifold.
It is a warranty issue but unfortunately you have to get the vehicle to a Mitsubishi Dealer to correct it. I would copy the pics below and not so gently push them to get the modified upper inlet manifold with the Map sensor in the new position fitted to your car.
I would also suggest you join the Pajero club forum as it's Pajero specific and there's lots of helpful people over there. You'll have to join to post on there but it's no different to any other vehicle specific forum.

The local mechanical said that they have had the hole in the manifold for the sensor block up on the tritons and cleaned this one out with wire when I first took the car in.
I can now see why they block up.

Thanks for the great reply

I'm not sure the kms, it was originally posted on the Triton forum http://www.newtriton.net/" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false; it's the same motor they were using up to the new model which is a common rail 2.5 litre.
Lots of good info on that forum too, the guys are pretty gung ho and like to experiment a lot.
