Re: GQ Charge light on at idle
Alternator not puting out enough voltage. Maybe the regulator is on its way out, or the alternator needs new brushes.
Just confirm that you alternator belt is tight enough (per spec) before you do anything, may only be a slipping belt.

the belt was the first thing i checked and all good is there any test you
can do to check the regulator

I would take it to an autoeleccy and get them to test it properly when you can afford the time/money - may be ~$50 or so. Simplest way as it isn't giving much trouble at the moment.

Re: GQ Charge light on at idle
Just had the same issue with my 90 model GQ. Finally reached a point where the light came on brighter and no charge was making it to the battery at all. Got it to a mate who's an auto leckky to have a look at the alternator and once he pulled it apart, we found that one of the 2 carbon brushes was sticking and not making contact with the slip ring. Cleaned it all up and put it back together - all woking fine now.

Exciter diode gone open can cause this too.
