Oh how misguided we are,the setup you had will record approx 70 degree higher egt's post turbo than a garrett on the same tune. For starters you are running way more boost than the MTQ setup would have been setup for hence the lower egt's also.

What you have described has absolutely nothing to do with the brand of turbo you have now.

I hope you could elaborate on what you mean? Cause I 'm pretty sure the MTQ could not of worked at that boost? yeah so What was the cause of what I was describing. I'm keen to find out! BTW I'm genuine in wanting to know I'm not being smart!

What it sounds like to me is that when you had the MTQ system fitted it was tuned incorrectly for the amount of boost that it was running factory, probably around 10 pound lets say, you have now fitted a different turbo possibly doubled the boost hence lowering the egt's and engine cooling system heat soak as well.

Was the MTQ system fitted with a boost controller and set to 20 PSi before???

On a side note if you want better performance from your vehicle then i would strongly suggest that you intercool it if you continue to run 20 psi .

MTQ was setup with boost controller running 13PSI and tuned on Dyno.

Are you saying 20PSI is to much without intercooler? Cause I don't have high EGT's now highest is 500.

PS Don't mean to hijack your thread terranonut, but I think it has relevance to the question you asked about turbo suitability?

20psi without an intercooler works but it's a bit silly. You can get the same air density with about 12psi boost and a good intercooler.
I also run 20psi with no intercooler, simply because I still haven't got around to fitting one. The air leaving your turbo at 20psi is at least 135C.

What "good Intercooler " Setup would you recommend for a GU Patrol wagon?

Fitment is the big question and since I don't own a patrol I can't really help with what will or won't fit.

Put a crosscountry air to air on there mate, Top mount big fuck off scoop, fan underneath, awsome bit of gear. No cooling system ,aircon headaches to deal with.

Currently using one on my daily with 185Kw and 660Nm ,over 20 psi boost ,awsome EGT.s

Will they work ok or just become one big heat sink cause hot air rises from motor, Turbo etc therefore heating up intercooler!!

Yeah of course they work man,the fans sits right over the top of the turbo and blows downwards keeping the heat soak from that side at bay.

Is yours a factory turbo engine????

OK youd wanna intercool it pretty quick then, they have issues with pyro temps much over 550 for sustained periods.

cross country is the way to go air to air.
Laminova is the way to go water to air.

If its blowing smoke i would assume that your egts would be higher than 500 if load is sustained

All good on the hijack i have a large water to air intercooler setup that i'm running core has been intergrated in to the intake manifold along the lines of Healths setup seems to work extremely well just need to purchase the right turbo to up the boast.

Still looking seriously at the 2876 however not sure on the ball bearing core, or otherwise the truck will get a holset HX35 have access to one which i may just try and see what response is like if the guy will let me borrow it for the day.

Cheers Glen

Unless your getting pump mods done, I think the 2876R is to big to spool well with the stock pump, If your not going to run over 18psi of boost or so, the 2860 is a better choice or possibly the 2871.

Rhysta as stated previously have 12mm plunger etc all done on pump already just running in the motor at the moment on low boast then want to get stuck in to the fuel screw and push it pretty hard.

Still deciding best turbo to run with just after peoples opinions on the better setup to run for 4x4 and road use with potential for 170rwkw +

Thanks

just got my new turbo yesterday, got to a couple of small mods to it then slap it on!
On paper it is good for 30psi on a td42 from 1800(full boost) all the way through to 4100...............Now that is Porn! Not a roller either!
Time will tell if we got it right? Realistically 2-3 weeks away from start up.

If you were looking at a turbo i would hold off for the results............

Ps. You need a pump that can deliver the fuel and hold the fuel right the way through the revs to get these results. I get the feeling that there are not many pumps around that can achieve this????????

Turbo setup sounds to have alsome potential at the moment still trying to borrow holset HX35 to try interested to see when one of these would make boast.

Once have tried that if to laggy was really looking at the 2876 or there abouts will be vey interested to know how your turbo setup performs.

Will check with guy who built my pump about the fuel delivery curve.

Thanks

Always interested in new set ups and to see what it performs like there are many different ways of going.Depending where you are there are quite a few pump shops who are getting pumps nailed .The trick is getting the whole package to work. The pumps can be made to work but getting a progresseve turbo that has a broard range (vaieriable vane would be nice) and matching all that together is the trick..Have fun and see how u go..Cheers billy
