improving the perforance of my gq 4spd auto

i got a gq patrol with 4spd auto. well looked after gearbox no issues with it at all, but looking to improve it now that im running big tyres its alittle sluggish, looking to increase take off in it like when going up hills or just general driving before i just go spend money go turbo or v8 conversion.

im not sure what recommend but thinking about a stall converter, atm you can already lock it into 1st gear but i maybe a upgraded manual control lock-up unit, and valve body upgrade?

what else do yous reckon, also im located in brisbane so if anyone can recommend me to anywere to get the work done to it?

Been able to lock the stall converter in first gear is not going to improve your performance, in fact you want the stall converter to be loose if you're looking to improve take off and powering up hills.

I'd get the stall converter modified to take up around 1800rpm and a shift kit to sharpen up the gear changes.

ok so you reckon just a stally and shift kit, do you reckon 2500rpm would be to big of a stall? cheers.

Just remember the bigger the stall the more heat it generates , this would not matter so much on the road but when crawling around in the bush it will .
Mate has a turbo diesel auto GQ reckoned it lacked a bit of low down when trying to get it to punch up a ledge etc on take off , fitted crawler gears to the transfer case and loves them . Are you noticing it on the road or on the tracks?
