Texas Border 250. 26-27th feb 2011

Post by Wilba »

About 3.5 hrs west of Brisbane on the Qld and Nsw border is a small town called Texas where on the 26-27th of feb the Texas Border 250 will be held.Scrut,Reco of track and prolog will happen on the Saterday with 9 more laps on sunday being the main race day.Accomadation can be found at the Pub,Caravan park or motel or camping close to track wich is only 3k from center of town.Inquries to the Club on 0408758360 or Tony Fehlhaber on 0412578655.Jamie and myself will will be trying to keep the old Chev in one piece ready for a good start to the season flying the flag for the Offroad Cartel/Swafftec/Amcor Excavations.I`m told that if they have a good roll up this year they have a oppertunity to have a 200k loop next year.Go the tin tops..Billy

I read the write up on this event on the offroad racing website the other day and sounds like a great venue and a great new track!! with a great view of the rolling hills and being able to see different sections of the course from the one viewpoint is always good,
And how cool will that jump be!! Would be great to get set up with the camera and get a heap of photos of the racers in full flight!!

Haven`t got much more to do to the old girl ,sort out new thermos,(old ones had a poo) fix the intercom so I can tell Jamie he worries too much and the usual pre race prep new oil in tranny check shocks and bys.If it doesn`t stop raining soon might have to set some woops up on the front road!! The track is supposed to be a bit tight and more suited to class 8 cars and buggys but we`ll give it a go.Theres a nice jump at the finish line so we`ll get a bit of air for you Mosko!

Never touchy Digsy but yep agree about Mosko, thats his feminine side showing. I enjoy the flat track and would like to give it a go but i think it would be to quick for my old reflexes. Some of the crazy stuff that I have seen is tops to watch. Maybe score a ride in one and get the bug and convert me.

Lol! You heard right!

However plenty of heart and some smart lateral thinking - and a short 14k walk - got ol ST-L boy out in one piece!

Funny thing is - steve didn't offer to walk with us!!

Awesome day but - funny as!

If this is a CAMS event how do the non cams approved trucks enter?

this is something i have been wondering about motorsport in general, or if the truck/car is registered does it fall into a different catagory?

Hey Nick.

It is indeed a CAMS event held by a local SEQLD club.

There is no way around the CAMS rules.
All cars must be CAMS approved and logbooked.
Much like CCDA for Cliffhanger, etc.

The vehicle that Billy Geddes will be racing at the Border Dash is a Chev C20 Class 4 (better known as a Trophy Truck)
It is a CAMS spec race car and has competed in many (MANY) CAMS events previously

I believe in the near future you will see a move to more CAMS approved vehicle specs for all offroad competitors as Class 8 is an excellent option for almost all 'winch' challange cars if the motor and cage requirements are met.

Would be awesome to have a car that could race Gundy 400, Cliffhanger and WTC...

This is coming up fast

I hear that there will be a very full lineup of ultra quick race cars at this event testing for AORC, etc.

I've heard ROCKSTAR ENERGY/Team Taylor are going to be there, as well as EXTREME MOTORSPORTS/Colin Hunter testing his new Class 8...
And our very own "Hollywood" Bill Geddes!!!

Plus a full lineup of local competitors! It really is looking like a brilliant event to get trackside without the enormity of AORC...

Its gonna be worth the drive!

The club from SEQld are still rocking on this event, sounds like it's going to be awesome.
I also was told that Team Taylor/Rockstar Energy will be making an appearance in their class 1 buggies!

I'm also really keen to go down and have a look at the class 7/8 fields locally this year.
From what I've heard there have been some changes at the Chapmans Team with young Clayton taking the reins of the class 8 pajero - and giving it some serious suspension tweaks!
Will be interesting to see the young gun step up a class in a competitive vehicle! I think he'll be tough to beat...
That said if Hunters new Class 8 RAM has no teething problems... Watch out!
Class 8 could take the overall!!

Man - I'm all set to just start drooling!

Big changes for the qld boys there digs!If weather is involved class 8 will be the one to watch for sure.Well we had a day on the chev on the weekend and got most things sorted.Fairly happy how she`s sitting with suspension definatly using more travel than with the old shocks and springs.Ride height might still be a smidge high but I`m thinking it`s not too bad seeing we are aiming to run finke next. But cars squatting nice and feels managable.Digs should have some pics and vid as he is my post a picture dude.Jamie and I are pumped to get into the season..

Yeah it's been one crazy week!

Unfortunately Billy has had to withdraw from the event. His son had an accident and has been in hospital since the weekend. Tom is recovering well but needs continual care. Our thoughts and prayers are with the Geddes family as Tom hopefully makes a full and speedy recovery!

But since then the Cartel Crew received a phone call from Team Taylor / Rockstar Energy chasing a navi for the number 6 class one!

Naturally I jumped at the chance to ride shotgun with a original offroad racing legend! So I'll be suited up saturday morning for 250ks i'm sure i'll never forget!

The line up at Texas is going to be impressive and i can not wait to see Extreme Motorsports new Ram in the flesh... It's gonna be a great start to the 2011 Queensland Series!

What a weekend...!

The Texas 250 was an awesome race! We had an absolute ball down there hanging out with the Rockstar Energy/Team Taylor crew and met some great people along the way and got to chat with some familiar faces!

After burning off some nervous excitement in the sighting lap, Nev went out and put on a strong showing in qualifying to start 3rd and we held this position all weekend.

The track was quite tight and technical, and very dusty, but that is the joys of Dirtsports! You never really know what you're gonna get eh?!

But all in all it was a great cause with plenty of great sections that flowed and some high speed fenceline runs where the No.6 was pedal down and HOLD ON! Yeeee Hawww!

Anyway the final results was

Overall.
Bryce Chapman 1st
Terry Rose 2nd
Nev Taylor 3rd

Class 8 was won by Coopers Regular Nifty in his V8 GQ Patrol after Clayton Chapman had some minor teething problems in the recently rebuilt Pajero (Chapman Qualified 4th OVERALL showing how potentially quick he was)

Class 7 was won by Evan Burns in his SWB Pajero.

That's all the names I can remember off of the top of my head at the moment.

It was a great weekend with some awesome machinery on show!
Anyway time for some photos!
