It depends where you want to regiester the vehicle. If it is in NSW (and probably a lot of other states - why do we have separate laws and procedures for each state? - now you have got me started!), you would have to get the thing "engineered" if you went for a V8. If you go for a V6, the RTA probably wouldn't even blink an eye, although they may have an indirect check via the engine numbers. Years ago, it was easier. If you use Mitsubishi V6, it should be a lot easier. If you went for a Commodore V6, the vehicle would go like hell, but you may have trouble registering it. All the best....
hey guys, good luck if u go ahead with an ls1 conversion, ive converted mine to a com v6/auto, and blown a transfer case and rear diff! second transfer case is from a v6 mits, and thats on its way too! dont know how your conversion is going to hold up! there are a number of people who do kits and adaptors, but keep in mind a 'kit' isnt made to fit like factory, theres always an issue, and believe me, i went through it! And as for engineers, sump needs 10mm clearance and 15mm clearance from any suspension components., this is in Melbourne, not too sure what other states require. hope this helps you a little?

Use 3.5 parts .. the 3.5 is 140 to 150Kw motor with 300ish Nm of torque .. the 3.8 commy motor is 120 to 130 ish with 280Nm of torque (ecotec motor)

earlier commdore v6 have 125kw@4800rpm-292nm@3200rpm, ecotecs start from 147kw@5200rpm-305nm@3600rpm, with the help of a turbo bolted to its side, well....endless! my opinion, i would do holden conversion, cheaper parts, and u could get parts pretty much anywhere
