2nd hand comp truck

Post by BIGDAVET86 »

hey guys, i would love to build up a capable truck to compete in the few comps we have here in WA and use recreationally as well, but my problem is i dont really have a workshop or the skills and tools to build one myself, also the 3 and 1 roster makes things hard. Rather than pay someone to build it for me i was looking at possibly buying one 2nd hand. I would like to get a winch style truck, something fast and stable, but still capable in low range. Not to fussed with what i get as long as its not a rover, preferably a patrol or hilux, injected v8 or turbo six, a diesel only if its throwing down some serious numbers.

I know its not the perfect solution and most of the utes will be fairly tired but its a good kick off point isn't it? they should have most of the bugs worked out? Plus anything i build is gonna need a fair few outings to get right anyway. The biggest dama would be that its probably coming from over east and i wouldn't be able to view it with out flying over.

it would be interesting to hear from others who have done this.

Cheers

Be aware of transferring a truck from another state, because you have owned it for less then 2 years dpi will want to put it over the pits and have it inspected.

I don't think it applies for a truck already in Wa rego as I have bought a few from Wa and there was no dramas.

yeah transfering the rego from annother state means it has to go over the pits, but if it has some certificates and the rego was current when it came over they tend to go through pretty easy. Or at least thats what I'm led to believe.

Yeh it does seem like a good deal, not sure if its complete and ready to go or not. I thought someone on here might pipe up and know who built it.

They are worth a fraction of what they cost to build, so its a great option.
Just don't pay too much or make sure you are getting good value.

As long as the bulk is good its pretty safe.

It costs a fraction of what it used to, to build them these days with parts like motors / shocks / cages costing half on average of what they used to, so I would imagine 20k would buy a good base. Look for things like shock install as about 50% are terrible, and this would cost $$ to have fixed.

Have a look at tiger autos in welshpool on welshpool rd next to the train line mate . They have a green GQ comp ute with an injected 5ltr and t700 with all the bar work and no winch it's been there for ages last time I had a look they wanted $20000 for it
