100 series Tranfer Case differences for Duramax Conversion
Hey everyone,
I have been asked repeatedly about fitting a duramax and Allison to Landcruiser. So it has become time to do so... But i need your help...
I know nothing about landcruiser transfer cases, so i have some questions for you guys.
What is the most popular transfer case found in the 100 series landcruiser???
What will be the most common vehicle people will want to do this convertion on? Will it be the Petrol 4.7 or the early 1HZ vehicles. What are the difference if any between these 2 tranfer cases?
I assume that the factory turbo diesel vehicle will be of no interest in this conversion because of there reliablily. So i was not going to look at this vehicle.
Cheers and thanks for your help, anything i may have over looked just let me know. If anyone has a tranfer case lying around let me know.
Heath

Re: 100 series Tranfer Case differences for Duramax Conversi
Pretty sure they're all the same, the part time transfers on lower spec models are the same as the AWD models externally (same bolt patterns).
Re: 100 series Tranfer Case differences for Duramax Conversi
'If' I wanted to do one, it would be to a 105 series for the solid front axle, instead of IFS.
Any idea what the approximate cost would be, for the Duramax/Allison, and then to fit it?

i dont think you will get out of it for less than $20k?

Re: 100 series Tranfer Case differences for Duramax Conversi
No idea on exact price as yet. I have a full time case being send to me as we speak. Then i will sit down and design the rest of the kit.
I think you will be look over 40k if i am doing the job. Thats out the door with everything. Including switcable tuning with 300 Econo, 330 Heavy Tow, 350 Light Tow, 380 performance, and 430 High horsepower tunes. Mod plated and Everything done A/C etc. Its not a cheap conversion but you get a lot for your money.
But one things for sure, this transfer case is going to get pushed to the limit. Any 100s out there roll 450hp to all 4 wheels yet. With 900-1000ft-lb. Wonder what the rest of the driveline is going to say about this!!! Time always tell is guess.
Cheers heath

Re: 100 series Tranfer Case differences for Duramax Conversi
Have a look at some of the turbo 1fz's, I'm think a few of the middle eastern examples would be close to this level of torque, lot more power though.heathgu wrote:But one things for sure, this transfer case is going to get pushed to the limit. Re: 100 series Tranfer Case differences for Duramax Conversi
One of toyotas better fulltime transfer cases is the HF2AV.-which comes out of the 94-97- 80 series Lancruiser .This particular transfer case come with the viscous coupler internals ,good strong box and a lot beefier than 100/105 series transfers cases.
HF2AV mated to a GM 6L80 auto and the 6.6 dmax would be my choices
transfer + adaptor to auto etc can be sourced locally -less mass to import!
I hear around the traps that full conversion kits will be available for patrols and then cruisers soon after (later models)

Re: 100 series Tranfer Case differences for Duramax Conversi
The Alison is the only box to put behind the duramax
the gm box waste of time and is not up to the power
some of the derated versions came out with this box and they were derated for a reason BOOOM
i think you will find the basic transfer case is the same the viscous type just longer because of the viscous coupling which is about the weakest part of the whole thing they have been known to fail and locking up
105 diesel has diferent transfer(split case) to 105 petrol or td 100 these are stronger
any way
Heath i think the most popular trucks will be 105 and 80 series
you would be best making it to fit the transfer from an 80 series as they all have the bigger stronger type
this has same pattern etc as the strong ones in the latter ones (105 + 80 viscous)
any way weather they be part time ,full time or viscous they all have same bolt up
these are a strong transfer sould be ok will have to wait and see
cheers and i may want one when you are done
pm me if you need info or a box to take measurements or pattern off

Re: 100 series Tranfer Case differences for Duramax Conversi
Thanks for the reply guys.
Can you identify what a tranfer case is from the outside?? Is there a parts number located some place?
Hey jonathan might have to take you up on the offer. you sound like you know whats going on mate.
Cheers Heath

We did consider the 6l80, but do not think it will handle the torque, certainly would not be able toCRUIZED wrote:One of toyotas better fulltime transfer cases is the HF2AV.-which comes out of the 94-97- 80 series Lancruiser .This particular transfer case come with the viscous coupler internals ,good strong box and a lot beefier than 100/105 series transfers cases.

tune up the duramax. They are half the size of an allison so that says something about the strength
Also having a 6l80e in my cruiser, and having driven a duramax with allison, the allison is a much smoother box.

Re: 100 series Tranfer Case differences for Duramax Conversi
I'm going too ask and get shot for it BUT if your spending $40k + why not spend an extra $4k (Ish) and get an atlas? They probly already make an adaptor, dig's, choice of ratio and will handle the HP better than a LC will i would think.

if the toyota one is up to the task why bother
not shooting just a few reasons

Is it worthe hassle of making adaptor's and shafts for a box that May not handle the HP and Torque?
4g once is better than 1g for the box, 500 for the adaptor's, 500 for the shaft's for a box that may need replacing (Gear set? Case? Shaft's?) a couple of times.
As i said Thinking out loud

2x4 ,4x4,4x2 (what does that have to do with full time 4x4
Do they have a full time 4x4 option ??? i dont know what you are trying to say
what i am saying do they make one with a center differential or viscous coupling for on road tar 4x4 use this will be beneficial with this much power and torque
as i said why spend 4 grand when no one has even tried and its all hear say at this stage
i have a spare transfer or 2 no point in smashing a fly with a sledge hammer if its not needed
some times the only way to find out stuff is to do it
and this needs doing

Re: 100 series Tranfer Case differences for Duramax Conversi
Because the landcruiser has an offset rear output shaft. To run centred output would involve modifying fuel tank, possibly tunnel, potential driveshaft vibrations. Also 100 series with ABS has to retain full time 4wd. Also all reports say the atlas is noisy with straight cut gears, not what you want in a tourer.WICKED wrote:I'm going too ask and get shot for it BUT if your spending $40k + why not spend an extra $4k (Ish) and get an atlas? If we could run centred output, would just use a patrol case.

HZJ105 don't run a split case, but are slightly different to the FZJ's and HDJ's because the are part time and have facility for a PTO.thrashlux wrote:105 diesel has diferent transfer(split case) to 105 petrol or td 100 these are stronger
