G'day all,
I am about to do my valve clearances as i started getting a tapping noise under load late last week
I have a workshop manual and it says there is a tool required to compress the lifters making the shims accessible, there is no part number in the manual so toyota has no idea what I'm on about so does anyone know where to get this tool?
Cheers, Stubbs

Re: 2.8 valve clearance tool
It compresses the bucket so you can flick the shim out. It's a shit of a tool and easier to use a screwdriver, or 2 if you have someone to help you.

Re: 2.8 valve clearance tool
Is that the one that looks like a tap reamer, slides onto the camshaft and then you wind a little narrow foot down from the top to push the shim bucket down? I think that one's about $200.drr wrote:It compresses the bucket so you can flick the shim out. It's a shit of a tool and easier to use a screwdriver, or 2 if you have someone to help you.
The other type is a pair of pliers and a lever, a lot cheaper and more easily bought but doesn't seem to work nearly as well.
