Post by kane86 »

i am looking at getting some 3 in flex xprings and a x-over steering kit for my 85 single cab direct from trail gear in usa does anyone have a idea on the freight costs to get them to syd and also the springs are longer then stock so can i use extended shackles to get them to fit instead of changing the spring hanger position if so what lenghts are needed for front and rear and do i need to buy any other parts to allow the x-over kit to fit thanks for any help

trailgear U.S will not look after you with freight to AUS.
their highsteer kit is $299 and they quoted me freight of $485.
they quote this ridiculous freight price so that you will buy the kit off their local Australian dealers ie loktup4x4.
another U.S company sky manufacturing quoted $150 freight for the same item but unfortunately they only do a kit for left hand drive hilux's.
as you can see their is a huge difference in freight cost from trailgear forcing you to buy from a local reseller.

i've looked at the suppliers over here but it seems like it is still cheaper to source them from overseas but from them prices it seems like the best option is to organize the freight through a third party

biggest supplier? you sure.......

why not just buy shackles from loctup aswell, to suit sprngs, or better yet dont pay for the loctup gear and find a cheaper solution.

i personally dont care who you buy from but it is best to atleast keep it australian as then we keep some jobs in aus and we keep some money in our country.

I would do some research on both companies before you start calling Loctup a rip off.

Maybe you should check out some of the prices on the snake racing site $950 for 2 hight steer arms?
At locktup for $799 you will get the 2 arms, tie rod, drag link, pitman arm and steering box mountin kit.
Perhaps snake racing wants to be the biggest supplier but hey are going to be very hard pressed to beat Locktups Good prices, Great customer service and super fast shipping times.

Completely agree.
Just about all my suspension is from chris at locked up.
Snake racing are highly overpriced then you have to pay shipping.
And they seemed like they didn't really want to sit on the phone and quote me on everything I needed.they expected me to go in for a look like it was just up the road.

Wouldn't buy anything off them after dealing with locktup

coming from someone who has 3inch trail gear springs and x over (awaiting highsteer)

i only have trail gear casue i got front and rear kits crazy cheap and 2nd hand,

if u buy the springs from trail gear u are then going to need shocks and shock hoops, some people use a drop front xmember but i didnt (2inchs of lift u dont need) shackle angle isnt the best but still flexs well enough,

if this offer for trail gear never came up, i would never have gone it,

i would have, hilux rears up front, shock hoops, ex shackles, shocks, which u can get from budcustoms which is cheaper that locktup

locktup pwns snake racing
gen 3 hilux :)

There is only one reason Snake Racing is currently cheaper than Locktup. Thats because Chris was taking business away from Ryan in a big way. Snake will only undercut Locktup untill they are gone and then you can all expect to pay 3x the US price on anything Snake sells. Plus shipping on top of that.

Another vote for Locktup4x4 i have bought all my gear from them currently on my truck and Chris is an excellent bloke to deal with. Snake is just around the corner from me and after dealing with him (before i found out about locktup) i cant believe how much shit he would offload although it wasnt a good option or would make vehicles unsafe etc he's just all about the $$$ and very hard to deal with...

At least last time i looked snake was double the price for everything and even though locktup had to ship over to syd their prices were still very reasonable.

If you want to speak to someone who knows everything about every little thing he sells, can hook you up with things that aren't sold anywhere else, charges you way less than he should, gets the parts to you before you expect them and does it all with a can do attitude and a smile.

Call Chris Bibby @ Locktup 4x4

Otherwise by all meens get anally fisted by going elsewhere.

Guys I would do a bit more research on comparing Locktup to Snake before you make any decisions on your purchase and make sure you are comparing apples with apples.

One thing people seem to miss is that Locktup products are not made by Trail Gear and a lot of their product is actually made in Australia. Their leaf springs are their own design, driveline product is made by either Longfield or Marlin Crawler etc etc.

Ask a few more questions could save you having to pay twice for something.

Ive dealt with them myself, and I will say, another vote for Locktup, Snakes prices seem to be more expensive for similar products.

Ive bought from Buds aswell, another vote for Buds too.

If you buy stuff from Locktup, then you will generally recieve a better price than whats listed on their site, well I did and a few people I know have as well.

Great service, fast freight, great products, great prices.

Tried http://www.lowrangeoffroad.com?" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;?

Usually cheaper than anyone else, with postage from usa.

Excellent for Lux's and Suzuki's.

Sean is easy to deal with and will get the cheapest post possible for you. Fast freight also. And deals with emails only also, i have never phoned them. Just have to keep in mind the time difference and how busy he is.

Cross over kit, Also for RHD http://www.lowrangeoffroad.com/yotamain ... g-kit.html" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;
So all you need is to mount an ifs box and pump and lines etc.

They do deal with springs also, But postage will be a killer because of the weight.

Lowrange is a middle man
Locktup is a middle man
Both suppliers money ends up in USA.

My new rig is 1/4 from lowrange.. Suzota

some things may seem cheaper yes others no once u work out the shipping lol, also with buying from them and not locktup what happens on the products with warrentys do u pay the return shipping? i think so i know with locktup u do not need to pay the return shipping they cover all that. Not all money ends up in the USA alot of locktups products are actually manufactured here. everyones different just deal with whoever u wanna as long as u end up with a good product at the end of the day everyones expeiriences are different for me ill be sticking with locktup as there prices havnt been beat by anyone else yet and im more than happy with there products.
