What turbo to run on my TD42

Post by PIG_GQ »

Hi guys I have a old AIT turbo set up on my GQ but the turbo has alot of sharft play and i was wanting somthing a bit bigger. It has a T3 flange and i dont want to change the manifold so would like to run a turbo with a T3 flange. At the moment it is non intercoled but i plane on running a air to air front mount or a water to air. It is used alot for fourbying and i would like a nice balance between low and mid range power and torque. Any help would be great thanks

you could try a mitsubishi tdo5 if you want to stay with the t3 flange or bolt on a t28 adapter and fit a roller bearing garrett turbo it depends on who you talk to and your budget oh and the sort of power you want and where in the rev range you want it

I breifly looked into it a while ago (i've got a T3 too), and the options were to have the existing one tricked up ($1400ish), get a T25/T3 adapter and GT28 of some description and re-do all plumbing (probably over $1700 and lots of time), OR get a shop to basically build a custom unit out of the Garrett catalogue thats T3 flanged and will meet requirements (about $1300).

VL turbo? RB25 turbo? RB20 turbo? Those are all T3 Or mitsubishi TD06 turbo they have a weird mitsubishi flange and the compressor housings are also reversed (brilliant mitsubishi idea  ) goes well on TD42.

If you're going that way, you might as well go for a run-of-the-mill VL turbo or similar. I'm pretty sure the RB25/26 Skyline turbos had T25 flanges anyway.
