gq diff vs gu diff
gq diff vs gu diff
Are gq diffs just as strong as gu, I know there interchangable. Replacing the 3.5s in my gu 4.8 to gq 4.1s
Re: gq diff vs gu diff
Ive heard they interchangeable as well. I was thinking of swaping my gq airlockers and 4.3's out and into my 4.5 GU to replace the open centres and 3.9's.

Re: gq diff vs gu diff
They are the same diff's in the front. The rear H233 is the same. If it is a H260 the centre's and axles are different.

Don't forget though that the CV's on the front are much weaker in a GQ and the track width of the GQ isn't as wide.

A GU cv is bigger, Axle's are the same Dia and Spline Count.
Wider Wheel Track.
Wheel base is lenght, track is Width.

Re: gq diff vs gu diff
Well in that case the centers are the same. Early GQ airlockers did have a spacer in them though which prevented the GU axles to slide in.

Re: gq diff vs gu diff
thats correct when i went to put my gq lockers into the GU it was the earlier model locker that was for a gq only, arb do a conversion kit to convert it into the RD09 (GQ front) to new RD136 1988-currentturps wrote:Well in that case the centers are the same. Re: gq diff vs gu diff
I don't think there is a "Conversion" kit, They just strip the locker down, and put it back together with out the thrust block don't they?GQ4.8coilcab wrote:thats correct when i went to put my gq lockers into the GU it was the earlier model locker that was for a gq only, arb do a conversion kit to convert it into the RD09 (GQ front) to new RD136 1988-currentturps wrote:Well in that case the centers are the same. They are the same as MQ rear (H233) ARB Air Lockers However the MQ dont have the thrust block in there.

Re: gq diff vs gu diff
sorry to hijack thread, but with the h260 can the ratio's be interchanged with a h233?
i dont think anyone answered that,
as i have 4.1's with my GU 5l (with h260')and when i supercharge it i want to lower the ratio's to 3.5 or 3.9's to give better high way cruzing! it revs to hard at 110(2500) wouldnt mind getting it down to 2200 ish.
thanks

i reckon youd be better going 3.9s if you only looking to drop 300rpm, bit of a difference between 3,5 to 4,1ssimcoe wrote:sorry to hijack thread, but with the h260 can the ratio's be interchanged with a h233?

The H260 has a 260mm ring gear and the H233 has a 233mm ring gear. So no they will not fit.simcoe wrote:sorry to hijack thread, but with the h260 can the ratio's be interchanged with a h233?

I am not sure what the smallest ratio is with the H260. I think it is 4.1, only other size I can think of is 4.6 out of the 3lt.
If the 4.8 auto had the big diff. I am sure it came with 3.5 or 3.9 diffs.

yea my 4.8 has 3.5s that why im looking to see if i can throw gq 4.1 complete centres straight in,turps wrote:The H260 has a 260mm ring gear and the H233 has a 233mm ring gear. Re: gq diff vs gu diff
nah its ok mate, in the original setup there is one long cross shaft and two short ones, in the GU setup there is 4 short cross shafts. I have to change mine as well.GQ4.8coilcab wrote:Well ive been jyped then, i know there was a part ordered to be put into replace the blockWICKED wrote:I don't think there is a "Conversion" kit, They just strip the locker down, and put it back together with out the thrust block don't they?GQ4.8coilcab wrote:thats correct when i went to put my gq lockers into the GU it was the earlier model locker that was for a gq only, arb do a conversion kit to convert it into the RD09 (GQ front) to new RD136 1988-currentturps wrote:Well in that case the centers are the same. so it looks like i'l have to get bigger rubber (35's)
unless someone out there knows if the 4.8's had a big diff randomally on them.. how much lower would 3.5's make my truck rev? 5-600rpm at 100km/h?
cheers for your help guys.

Re: gq diff vs gu diff
Can anyone tell me the exact difference in Width between the GQ H233 and the GU H233?
Looking to fit a GU front to my GQ and leave the rear diff original and just use wheel spaces to correct the width, need to work out what size wheel spacers I would need or whether I'm better off just going to a GU rear too.

Re: gq diff vs gu diff
its between 40mm and 50mm. the difference in width is all in balls/knuckles. The actually housings are the same.
I wouldn't bother changing the rear or even bother with spacers

Re: gq diff vs gu diff
I think Marks Adaptors do a kit that make rear GQ the same width as the GU.

My friends aren't holding me back..... I'm pulling 'em forward.
Re: gq diff vs gu diff
Instead of redoing the GQ centre to take GU axle you can just take 5mm off of the inside end of both axles. The GU housing has bigger nuckles , you can not put GU nuckles on a GQ housing, but you can put MQ nuckles on the GQ housing to get high steer. Also 15 inch rims will fit on a GU diff with the smaller GU brake package
