how much lift on an 80?

Post by _Mitcho_ »

hey guys ive just bought an 80 series and i just wanna know how much lift i will need to fit 38's?? i was thinking either a 6" lift or 4" coil lift and 2" body lift?? i know i will have to do a fair bit of cutting but that does not bother me.
thanks!

i want it to have decent flex, i know ill have to extend the bump stops a fair bit but just as long as i have down travel ill be happy. yeh ive still got the 40 atm but i end up selling it to my mate. its all fixed and all the body work and paint work is done so my mate is gonna finish it off. gonna be sad to see it go but i need the $$ to fund the 80 suspesion

I just moved the front diff forward in my 105series. moved mine 15mm, I welded 3mm plate to the radius arm mounting brackets on the chassis and re-drilled new holes 15mm forward of the original holes

I did this to provide clearance for 35"tyres that were binding on the body inside the front guard

Current Specs
38x13x15 Maxxis Creepy Crawlers on 15x8 Sunnies (normal cruiser offset)
94, HZJ80 Poverty Pack
No mud flaps (well actually one aftermarket on front only 5mm thickness), no fibreglass wheel flares, just flexi flares
6 inch suspension lift (now sagged to about 5 inch), no body lift
Std bump stops

Without any cutting and with flexi flares the tyres caught the outside lip of the rear wheel arch. No touching in the front regardless of compression of suspension or wheel position.

Cut 35mm out of rear wheel arch (40mm at the very back) I have been able to stop rubbing or catching on the outside of the wheel arch. Tyres still rub on chassis and inside edge of wheel arch, but relatively smooth surfaces so I am not worries (only on full compression on one side and full drop on the other). The cut was performed with a reciprocating saw and welding the two panels back together.

I have not reinstalled wheel flares, but believe I have enought clearance for either flexi flares or garden edging.

This is my experience, hope it helps.
