Missus wants a Disco, should i be scared?

Post by ricky1970 »

Ok, the missus has decided enough of driving a Commadore and has found a Disco she likes (read 'wants'). '94 ES ,3.9L, auto, dual fuel ,extractors/big exhaust, mild lift (2" maybe), 265/75R16 BFG muds, 133K, asking price $5000.

Its been offroad and has a few battle scar's, a tick noise from the motor that appears to be an extractor gasket (exhaust has taken a hit underneath, so has the transfer mount behind it). Has a oil leak up front (timing case????) thats proberly not as bad as it looks. Its a bit slugish on takeoff, but i'm guessing the 265/75's would be having some bearing on this. Minor oil leak on the rear diff (pinion seal???) and maybe a leak at the transfer case. Bit of dodgy underbonnet wiring (driving lights etc).

Runs a little bit iffy on petrol, but going by the oil colour its always on gas so maybe the fuel is a bit on the old side. Owner can't remember last time he put petrol in it. Heads been done about 12monts ago. Going by the owner, its done minimal k's the last 3 yrs.

Good stuff is it drives steers and brakes very nice. And so much smoother to drive in than my Rodeo or Sierra.

So what do i look out for with these jiggers. Everthing works (except driving lights) with no obvious clunks or bangs.

Cheers
Rick

IMHO it is a little over priced.

And yes you should be a little afraid.

Yep to much for it i think.Should be able to find one cheaper then that.
As for the tick noise make sure your 100 % sure its the exhaust gasket.
Slipped liners can make the same noise.Just read it again and it doesnt run on petrol.I'd honestly wait for a better one.Theres plenty out there in better condition and alot cheaper.
Good luck with it.

Yeah, it a bit of a mess underneath, would think he would at least clean it if he wants to sell it.
