hilux 308 cooling

Post by captainjacksnooze »

I have a 89 dual cab project and have recently put an old 308 in it.
Im now up to the cooling I have purchased a vs ss radiator to use.
The alternator is rated at 55 amps.
I was thinking of using one of two methods :
one 16 inch thermo with a shroud set up as a puller, 3300 cfm, 280 watt, 32 amps to start then runs on 10 amps. OR
two 16 inch thermos one as a puller and one on outside of radiator as a pusher however these types are 2400 cfm pull and 2200 push, both run on 8.5 amps.
Im not really sure if this will work or how to go about this these are just my ideas, I am trying to be cautious of power usage due to a relatively low power rated alternator being 55 amps. If anyone had done this conversion before and or has a better way that will keeps it cool please let me know, thanks

I take it you cannot fit an engine driven fan?

They really are the best way to cool your engine.

If you can't fit one then best bet would be to source the electric fan set that came with your particular model radiator or try some Ford AU twin thermos, these may need some shroud modificaions but are apparently the ducks guts for thermo fans.

But best to fit an engine driven fan if you have room.

If your worried about power you can get 120 amp alternators for less than $200.
Wtb, 105 series rear tyre carrier, alloys and tyres.
