small oil leak from turbo

Post by 89_GQTURBO »

hey all

i have noticed a small oil leak from my HT18 turbo on the compressor side.. it seems to form a small drop on the underside of the turbo and i have determined that its leaking from the join in the turbo that the elbow comes from to feed over into the motor

Could this be shagged front seal or because my turbo does not have a restrictor on it as i have custom lines? I read somewhere that T3 turbos are supposed to have a restrictor in them

I have not noticed any abnormal smoke or oil consumption... yet

Thoughts?

Cheers

Mine did the same thing. It was blow by. I disconnected the hose from the intake & its just sitting beside the motor atm. Fixed the leak. Think the oil was seaping out of the bottom bolt & pooling on the under side of the compressor.

it kinda gathers around at the bottom bolt of the turbo that holds the waste gate to the turbo then drips to the bottom of the turbo

Yes mate should have been more informative. I disconnected the pcv hose from the tappet cover that goes to the intake pipe just before the turbo compressor. I left it damgling beside the motor for the time been, its just adding to the mess from when I do an oil change & remove the filters. I'll eventually get around to fitting a catch can. Mine seaped oil out of the bottom bolt thats one of 6 that you can loosen to spin the compressor around. It just pooled on the under side of the compressor & would drop a couple of drops over night.

beautiful, thanks mate when i get her back from the exhaust shop ill give it a go hopefully its jsut that and not shagged seals... it has no shaft play so i was hoping it was just blowby... may have to run a cach can myself then... Cheers for that....

No mate I didn't, but I have been wondering about it. Might run some thread seal on the bolts.
