Tyres on 16x5.5

Post by jackaroo02 »

Hi all

Just picked up a new 76 series workmate (woohoo!!)
Wondering on the feasibility of sticking with the split rims, whats the biggest tyre I can go on them? will a 235/85/16 fit?
Also If so, can you suggest a decent aggresive tyre that will put up with harsh conditions in that size, or am I better to just bite the bullet when these tyres are buggered and buy a set of 16x8 rims?
Have to admit I like the idea of having split rims out bush.
Any advice appreciated.

Oh yeah and has anyone had expierence with the 4WD Systems long range tanks?

Cheers!

i fit a 34x10.5r16 swamper onto a 16x6 rim.. you might be able to squeeze it on a 16x5.5...

235/85/16's on my 100.. i have cooper st's... because i picked them up at half price and they have reasonable sidewalls.. like them so far.. great in everything except mud/very soft sand deep enough to make the diff/s drag, and they're ok then.. just don't slow down for anything ;)

hey shorty..34 swampers on a 6 inch rim huh?

that would be super nice for a set of play tyres..

do you drive them on the road as well?

is wear more pronounced in the centre of the tyre?

any pics?

Think that would be a great option for my 100 ;)

Yep I drive them on road at around 30psi on the 40. I noticed they dont flat spot as much on these rims yet either. I haven't tried them off road yet... on the 27th i will though :)

I haven't driven them enough to notice any abnormal wear.

If you're going to be way out bush and doing little to no tarmac work, consider a set of rags such as the MRFs, they have excellent staking resistance and pretty good traction in the dirt. But they suck on bitumen and won't last long if you're only driving on the black stuff.

Cheers Guys

Reckon I will just run down these Road Grippers for a while n If I get any trouble with flats at low pressures, or find they are struggling too much might have to swap to 16x8's will just see how they work out!
Happy driving
