New D40 RUST in vehicle at 300 kilometers
New D40 RUST in vehicle at 300 kilometers
Hi all,
Please help, we have a new D40 and found RUST under the windscreen, around the wiper area at 300 kilometers. Yes only 300 kilometers. Nissan tried to fix it but missed the inner guard. I picked up the car last Friday, after they had it for another two weeks only to find surface rust forming over the entire duel cab roof, inside the door jams throughout the ute body, there has never been anything in the ute tub. The car is always garaged, when we have had it that is. This our first Nissan and we are very disappointed, we have always had Toyota's, it is not good enough, we purchased a brand new vehicle only to find rust. We even payed extra to have electronic rust prevention fitted.
All advice is greatly appreciated as Nissan now say they will respray the vehicle.

Re: New D40 RUST in vehicle at 300 kilometers
mate this has to be malfunction from factory, or there is a serious story to your vehicle, this cant be right rust in it with 300 km, you should be given another new vehicle and i wouldnt settle for anything less, this is ridicolous
Re: New D40 RUST in vehicle at 300 kilometers
Contamination on the assembly line sounds the most feasible, however there'd be a whole batch of cars with the same issue if this was the case.
Other reasons may be that it's been dunked in salt water on the boat over, or possibly has some "other stories" behind it before you purchased it (dealer demo or something).
Either way, as rizzo said, don't settle for anything less than a new car. Rust isn't exactly as easy to fix as say a dodgy diff or a ZD30.
Good luck.....

Re: New D40 RUST in vehicle at 300 kilometers
My aunt bought a nissan tida 12 months back and did not even get to the 300 kms... not even out of work shop and they said the car had had acid spilt on it marking paint but they would repaint it if they have to.....
Told them we want another one and they said no can do.... thats the one we have bought at the good price. Called another nissan dealer asked him to match price and he said no probs,...
Called dealer back saying we want money back as getting another new (non acid one) elsewhere...... no can do was the reply... i said i'll be there in 1 hr for the money and i will do what it takes to get it. he basically called me a c#nt but deposited money back that day!
Squeeky wheel gets the oil....i suspect you will have no end of trouble with the car...
You want a new one....or money back.... no exceptions

Re: New D40 RUST in vehicle at 300 kilometers
D40's have had major paint problems. odds are the anti rust that goes on before the paint is missing. take it back and get a new one as its stuffed. nissan AU is a nitemare to deal with. there are a few long fights with getting the paint fixed.
Re: New D40 RUST in vehicle at 300 kilometers
Nissan are painting the affected areas, the car is in the panel shop now. I have been pushing for a new car, it's not a good advert having rust in a new vehicle. We will have to wait and see. They claim that they will honor the warranty including the paint, lets see if they match the color correctly, its white.
Re: New D40 RUST in vehicle at 300 kilometers
was talking about this with a panel beater who just started work at one of the shops we sell parts to this afternoon. the shop he just left from do nissan warranty work and they have done a few d40's with rust. i think he was saying around the top of the pillar/roof section. i will ask him tomorrow how many trucks and where the majority of the rust was so you will be armed with some better details when you have to argue. if you know the problems that they already know of and drop the ACA words they would probably be happy to get rid of you before it escalates.
only the first roll hurts, then its a ride..
Re: New D40 RUST in vehicle at 300 kilometers
Mate its not the warranty period i am worried about its the 5 years after that when you own a rust bucket and they want nothing to do with you! You must be firm and noisy! Re: New D40 RUST in vehicle at 300 kilometers
ok spoke to the panel beater and he said they are rusting in the seams from the inside out. they have done them in the roof rails where the roof skin joins the body. mainly top of windscreen pillar towards the back of the truck. apparently there is hardly any paint on some of them internally.

Sounds like a different problem.purplebus wrote:ok spoke to the panel beater and he said they are rusting in the seams from the inside out. they have done them in the roof rails where the roof skin joins the body. mainly top of windscreen pillar towards the back of the truck. apparently there is hardly any paint on some of them internally.

A mate of mine bought a new fairlane in 12 months it was rusted to all hell. no question, ford rolled out a brand new car for him... which he promtly put an a truck to trade in with another dealer lol.

Re: New D40 RUST in vehicle at 300 kilometers
bugger doing just the effected areas, thats just a band aid. it need a full total strip and repaint. there will other little bits that have been missed and your not going to find out until well after the warranty has run out.
Re: New D40 RUST in vehicle at 300 kilometers
problem is they are rusting from the inside out. from the bits you cant see until it pops its head out on the side you can.

Re: New D40 RUST in vehicle at 300 kilometers
there just generally shit cars i guess.. mine did 2 diffs a gear box and multiple electronic problems including lights staying on when the keys aren't in the car and the switch is off.. hazards randomly coming on a fuel cut problems that caused the car to literally bounce down the road... the blue tooth never worked either.. got rid of the car after 8000kms
my dads makes some god awe full noises when turning and is luck to get 400 kms out of 1 tank
they gave us a new 3l patrol for the d40... and it drinks fuel like no tomorrow.. best i could get out of it was 14.4l /100kms on the highway going to perth that was sitting on 100km/h as it used 18 + to do 110....
all in all new nissans are horrible.. bring back the TD42!

Re: New D40 RUST in vehicle at 300 kilometers
They won't replace it and we just have to wait and see how it comes back from being painted, what ekse can we do?
Could be worth taking some of the internal trim out to check for rust, thanks for the tip.

nissans new v8 is something to look forward to, 600 + nm torque 298 kw petrol, fuel consumption of 14l/100km , but yes i dont understand why they ever stopped the td42, just stupidity.macneil wrote:there just generally shit cars i guess.. mine did 2 diffs a gear box and multiple electronic problems including lights staying on when the keys aren't in the car and the switch is off.. hazards randomly coming on a fuel cut problems that caused the car to literally bounce down the road... the blue tooth never worked either.. got rid of the car after 8000kms

mate i would go get some legal advice on this vehicle , nissan should replace this no questions asked, if they dont i would take it further, dont settle for patch up jobs cause it will come back in the future, but at the end of the day its your car, your money
Re: New D40 RUST in vehicle at 300 kilometers
as an aside to the factyou want a new car no questions but replying about the patrol 3L's fuel consumption... i have a spanker and even with no major mods as yet am amazed at how little fuel its using compared to my last 2....
weather its a common rail versus non common or the no lift and tyres yet...
now back on track... if this one got rust at 300 i would be driving a new one no questions.

no lift in our CRD zd30 has 33's but they did not make a difference it had no take off power at all when we got it after exhaust we had a bit more but not asmuch as the old zd30 we had.. apparently some CRD's are awesome some a crap on fuel..
thinking that the torque conveter could be playing up...

Re: New D40 RUST in vehicle at 300 kilometers
IF YOU HAVE A MANUFACTURER'S WARRANTY IT IS THE REPSONSIBILITY OF THE MANUFACTURER TO REPAIR YOUR VEHICLE. THE DEALER IS MERELY THAT, A DEALER! THEY DON'T MAKE THE CAR, THEY DON'T WARRANT THE CAR.
WHEN YOU REPORT THE PROBLEM TO THE DEALER THEY FOLLOW THE PROCEDURE THE MANUFACTURER TELLS THEM TO. THE DEALER IS CONTRACTED TO DO SO BY THEIR DEALER AGREEMENT WITH THE MANUFACTURER.
IF YOU ARE UNHAPPY WITH WHAT THE DEALER HAS BEEN TOLD TO TELL YOU BY THE MANUFACTURER, CONTACTING THE MANUFACTURER DIRECTLY WILL HAVE BETTER RESULTS. ALL MANUFACTURERS WILL HAVE CUSTOMER CARE PHONE NUMBERS. BEST OF LUCK WITH IT ALL.
