Style side landrover winch comp rig: ideas and tips?

Post by Mosko111 »

Hey guys,

looking at building a winch comp truck out of a style side landrover, not sure on the model but it has the unbuilt
cab with styleside....

Now just wondering if anyone has any pics or ideas? We are thinking:

turbo 5ltr bolted to turbo 400 auto (already have this stuff)
gq diffs front and rear (already have aswell)
coilovers (don't have)
internat cage with roof sliders, scrub bars along the back of the styleside along te top,
mount cab and engine 150mm back with rear mounted radiator, then winch recessed into grill
only use outer skins of the guards with them bolted to a tube front end.
Raise gearbox and engine slightly so we can run a full underbody slide plate that's flush with the bottom of
the chasis rails,
37inch crawlers on beadlocked rims ( already have)
and jus a bit more barwork to save panels And so there's no worries about leaning up against trees...

Any more ideas?

Cheers in advance Mosko

if it is a 2 door truck cab then it will require ALOT of work to fit an internal roll cage.....let alone find good/strong/safe mounting points for it.....the whole interal cage thing is BS for landrovers.....the whole body and body supports would require re engineering for it to be a safe cage.....all the while a simple but safe external cage can be made.....all the over the UK and europe they compete with external cages......but the rule makers here have borrowed the rules from CAR racing, this means monocouque construction.....which the LR aint....

x2 Uniformed, Ive been trying for years to buil a comp defender but being a single cab there is no ROOM yes I know people have done it but I have sat in one and its too uncomfortable as you are too close to the steering wheel. I could not live with it especially if you in it for 10+hr days

If external cages were allowed could have been havin fun 6years ago :bad-words:

I've been toying with the idea between a soft top (run the harness bar across the back of the cab)or extra cab (to fit it all inside) after weighing up the pros & cons  I am now leaning towards turning my 110 single cab ute into a 110 hard top which sounds like what you are after

here is a photo of a Bruce Davis built defender as you will see he used the back of a defender wagon for a cab and extended the cab while he was at it

PS if anyone is wrecking a hard top please let me know

Mate what are you chasing? I know where there's 10 landies haha and shorty forties, 45's zooks and all types of stuff in a car graveyard, only prob is it's on the island so unless it's an internally part or body/ windows the rust has given them a touch up

Thanks Kirby but I have been talking to them for years now ( they oringinally helped me with my project ) had it all lined up to get mine done like Andrews 90 single cab ute but the guy that did his stopped doing buisness plus after many thoughts its just too tight. The guy that did the roll cage did a bloody top job.

Mosko111 i'm after this from the B-pillar back just the body dont need the back windows
