Diff backlash

Post by chugga »

My diff has excesive backlash and it makes a slight clunk noise only in 1st and 2nd when backing off the accelarator. Any way to adjust this while the diff is on the car?

Not if its diff backlash, the whole centre will have to come out and be adjusted, also check uni joints they can sometimes make similar noises.

You will need a dial gauge and torque wrench, not sure if you need any other specialty tools, best off to send it to a diff and gearbox place as it is a pretty precise. Will prob set you back round $300.
I do most things on my car but I leave that one to my mate a toyota mechanic.
