Re: Power steering help plz
Welcome to outers
have a read of the sierra bible. from memory power steering is near the end of the list.

And if that didn't help you. You can always use the search on here you will find about 50+ threads already about this very subject.
From the sounds of it you have a very modified zuki already. Do you have some pictures?
With you having a heavy set up as it is I think you need to look at putting a IFS Hilux or landcruiser box. If you go with the common vitara or jimny box on the sierra I feel you will brake them. Just make sure you install crush tubes for what ever you using and fish plate the area on both sides. As you have the 253 look for a pump that is made for that engine thats the easy part.
You do not have to copy mine but this is how I got a IFS box onto mine. (the front chassis is 18" longer)

Re: Power steering help plz
You need an 80 series steering box, like this one
then tap it for hydro assist
You need a Spidertrax power-steer pump like this one
and you may need some hydro assist

Re: Power steering help plz
Thanks heaps for the pics and info mate I'm on the hunt for those parts at the moment so I can get my rebuild on the way
Got a lot to do by the looks of things ...
As I'm also converting the 253 to a auto but I want to get this steering sorted as I'm no chuck Norris lol
I can't steer a locked front diff with 37s and no power steering lol

Is it going to be engineered and registered (frankly unlikely with a two fiddy tree) or a trailer queen? If it’s going to be offroad only I’d honestly be looking into going full hydro. No boxes, pumps or links to worry about and 1 finger steering at any engine speed regardless of tyre size (well, almost).
If you’re hell bent on keeping it mechanical then any box from a large 4wd with a forward facing pitman arm will do you. IFS lux (probably cheapest), 60s, 80s, solid axle 100s, GQs, GUs, Range Rover Classics, and series 1+2 Discos will all work although the Land Rover stuff has a bad rep for leaking, I have limited experience with them though. While you can use boxes with rearward facing pitman arms they will have to be mounted way forward, I’m talking outside the front grille, on the chassis. I looked at using a 75 series box on my LWB and ended up going with a 60s unit instead.
Regardless of box selection (hee hee he said “box”) you will need to fish-plate both sides of the chassis and weld in crush tubes wherever you mount it, even if you’re not worried about engina’ing.
For a pump you could go for a Ford “teardrop” pump (XD?) which puts out 1500psi (again, from memory) of pressure and should be able to handle 37s without too much hassle. IIRC, this is the setup redzook ran on his ute that wore 37s, and the guy never exactly shied away from the harder stuff either. They can be found cheaply online to, I picked one up off egay with lines that bolt straight into a 60s box for $50>

Re: Power steering help plz
You wont need to tap it for hydro at all if your not running huge tyres. (40+)
As for the pump you may as well use the ford one that Jimbo showed you or any pump that came out on a 253. The one that Bentzook showed you bolts to a 1600 so you will need to fab mounts etc so not really the best option for the motor your running.
You can use a 60 or 80 steering box and im pretty sure 70 series will also do the job.
