Eliminating balance shaft & belt!

Post by ianmc »

:?: :?: :?: I think I have seen some reference elsewhere to eliminating the balance shaft & its drive belt on a Mits, in particular my 2.5td.
As I had a belt drop & the valve gear mangled a while back & it was thought that the bs belt may have tangled with the timing belt I would appreciate hearing if anyone has eliminated this belt & what else has to be done & if it makes the donk too rough, particularly at higher revs.

I'm not sure about the diesels specifically, but we used to remove them on the old Mitsubishi 2.0 and 2.6 Astron donks.

was a matter of pulling them down and getting everything balanced by an engineering shop. (they went very well afterward). but exactly cheap if you're paying someone else to do it.

Anyone know why the 2.8TD went back to a chain drive instead of the belt?? (I am yet to buy a manual for it)

Seems to me that the chain could be more reliable & longer lasting.
The genuine Mits belts (2) are not cheap plus an oil seal or two & maybe an idler pulley.
I have heard of some belt breakages but not too sure of the details.
The 2.8 chain drive sounds preferable to me. I shall be changing my belts on or before the required time as they cost me dearly when they went.
